The bleeder valve for the engine coolant system is on the top of the radiator. It needs a 6 mm hex key to open. Look for an access hole after you've removed the large black plastic panel over the radiator.

The purpose of the engine coolant valve is to route coolant either to the cabin heater core or to the coolant heat recovery system canister.

When I looked at throttle body on our low mileage, third gen, there was similar oil. Engine oil has never been overfilled, fwiw. I'm guessing it's usual, maybe from PCV valve. Or EGR valve? The latter is only on 3rd gen.

Well she is perfectly clean now. Off to savage for some, God willing, good parts to troubleshoot with.

    Sent by a
Anyone know what the two sensors do besides one being a temp sensor likely the one above the upper radiator hose (and the differences) I saw on a parts catalog on Ebay in & the other one in the drivers end of the cyl head behind the upper radiator hose hard to see between the inverter resivoir tank? I was only aware of three total temp sensers under the hood 1 in lower pass corner of radiator, 1 in bottom of recovery tank, & 1 in end of cyl head. Also saw what is likely knock sensor on block or lower part of head in ctr under intake.

Pulled a treasure trove of parts mostly off an '07 from salvage for $ 98.xx.for missing ones for the '06 & troubleshooting and keeping both our Gen 2's in good order. We also found 3 small hand tools near lower RH:

The sensor that is magnetic under the toyota hood emblem with black connector is the one for cyl head above the larger upper radiator hose.

Got that always valuable handfull of metric hardware.to boot.

Forgot to include a wheel trim ring also. Getting another tomorrow along with a couple more parts.

Got more air bled out of both systems.
Only replaced the TPS with one from salvage. No more stuck open throttle plate code so far.
    Drove her about a mile.
    New code P3014 tonight.
Erased the codes a couple times, and she is running now as long as I keep my foot in her....After a while any ICE roughness and weirdness seemed to trim out.

Still the expected P0A80 code for HV batt. Will need some suggestions on using discharge options for the Grid charger as you all are far more experienced.

She is running closer to normal now but both fans are running constantly but no temp indicator ever comes on the MFD. Suspect one of the temp sensors or fan relay stuck closed (less likely).

Boys are changing the oil now with 100% synthetic & filter prefer PurOne Preimum Synthetic but Walmart only thing open this hour had to do a Preimum XG Synthetic Fram. We also use some 3 different super lubes from Torco & 4oz Prolong. Plan on changing that all again soon anyway as it will need some light flushing.

Checked CVT oil its good & full.

Thank you, sometimes they sock it to me but friday they did not hit me so hard.
Oh, I tested for funnies at same salvage a '07 HV batt best one of the 2 they had and it was terrible. Tested so low my meter kept autoranging. Looked awful when took the cover off lots if corrosion. They said a guy was going to give then $ 700 each for them from TN. I told them good luck with that.

Interesting. The blocks as I undrstand it are only two as they are wired with the 4 large leads. Apparently the software sees them in smaller divisions? Anyone have any tech data on that revealing how it relates to the 28 cell units or are they called blocks?

There are 28 modules. Each module pair is organized as a block. Hence there are a total of 14 blocks which the traction battery ECU individually monitors via the thin sense wires.

    Thank you,
Now we just need to figure out if the blocks are numbered from the computer end or fan end.

Do you need the Maintenance manual? If so send me a PM and I will give you a link to zip files on my web server.

In the '06 manual zip the first file is not supported by WPS office for Android and named Tech2006 anyone know what opens it? The rest all work.

The file in question Tech2006.sfv after extraction is a .sfv type and Polaris Office v5 & v6.5.4 + .pdf does not recognise it either.
    Adobe Acrobat v15.2.2 same problem

Just a dumb thought: try renaming it, change the extension to .pdf?

Umm, that is easy in windows. I am on a S5 with Android Lollipop v5.1.1. Will have to look at some file converters on Play store. Seems like I ran into this same issue once before some time age but the fix is not coming to me as of yet.

All of the required files are zip files. The svf file is not needed, There is an HTML file that acts as an index to the others, but it is not that useful.

The sfv file is a "Simple File Verification" file that contains checksum information to verify file integrity. There are programs that cah open it for Windows, Mac, and Linux systems.

Lookie, some freaking boob dropped a tool before we got it and did not pull the fused safety plug. Thought since we were installing the grid charger fan control tonight we would clean her up. Connections were always excellent but never like to leave carbon scoring to corrode:

Hybridautomotive.com Prolong "Grid" charger, fan control installed & working normally:

Drove her a nice drive with heater on to get rid of our suspect air in cyl head @ sensor for fans over 80 mph (while monitoring temp & other things with Torque Pro) after 24 hours on the Grid Prolong charger no dummy lights for 4 miles then expected brakes, VSC ((!)), (we reset yellow brakes dummy lights using OBD 2 port paper clip [IMG]
before 2nd drive tonight) check engine came on, again as expected with these persistient P3014 & P0A80 ref in quote above. Fans are not running all the time after warm up any more and are normal operation cycling ocassionally very brielfy on. Added a pint of coolant as expected. My HV batt fan is cycling normally also. HV batt is acting, charging more normal now.

Our VCI Mini came in but our PC is out getting Win 7 on it by a generous friend.

We will order a pair of modules friday for block 4 (still not sure how the blocks are numbered) if it is not happier after another 20 hours for the 2nd part of the cyce on the HV Prolong Grid charger. Finally found the discharge option on the newer pinkish titled pages in the menu for the installation instructions & user guide as the PriusChat Store older site options were not user friendly and did not list the two bulb discharger. Am trying via email to order another discharge ready wiring harness for our '04 & the 2 bulb discharger.

Getting excited as she is title ready for monday.
Need a tire pressure sensor as one is not happy but will get to that as I play with them more or swap one at a time with the '04.

We did have a brief but disconcerting episode with the HV Grid Prolong charger fan relay control today. My young adult son was plugging it back in to our 10ga extension cord after moving her down off ramps from the install of salvaged drip shields / cooling shrouds in & below the front and sides and after interior cargo area panel reinstall when he says the fan relay control was making a lot of noise (asked for a video but it quit) and the HV fan was cyclying quickly between high & low speeds. He unplugged the charger and pulled the panel and inspected things but was miffed when plugging her back in that it acted normally. We removed the block of foam for better airflow like the instructions stated. A few hours later still normal for this stage @ 242v & 351ma.
