The first image shows the bare metal and the foam bits with sound insulation. The second is the foam cover for the spare tire. There is a floor above it that's hard (cardboard or plastic. I can't remember). Basically, just think of it like your current car but replace the box with high density foam and sound insulation. The false floor sits on top of it.

Yes and no. The spare tire well is oddly shaped anyway so you may get the depth but you won't get a floor with reasonable square footage.

Plus, the floor is already dropped by quite a bit. I think that video in the other thread with the "Staff Manual" shows +110mm extra depth. Besides, given the open cavity of a hatchback, I'd gladly take the extra sound insulation. I think you guys will be surprised by the noise level ;)

I use the space around the Gen 3 spare when on trips to hold stuff we won't need to access till we get there. You can fit quite a bit.

I too look forward to a lower noise level but doubt that much noise reduction will come from the foam. I expect it to come primarily from the choice of suspension and attention to how the suspension is mounted and isolated.

To absorb sound, you generally need something that has a large exposed surface area (e.g fibreglass batting). To block sound you generally need heavy mass or multiple dissimilar layers of moderate mass. I expect that it is closed cell foam hence low exposed surface area and that in an acoustic context it will be low mass.

I seriously can't believe how awful this looks. Guess my Gen3 will be my last Toyota for a while.

Yes the bathroom fixtures are horrible. The good news is not all models or options will have to contain the white parts.

One document (I think) said they're an option, ie: not tied to any one level.

Options could also mean that they're part of packages, just like how "wood trim" could be considered optional in a Camry, because it's on the XLE trim and not the LE.

Elegant New Lexus RX turn signal indicator! Had to post this somewhere.
Moderator can take it down, sort of testing to see if it will stop flashing! :D

Right. That may mean I would have to end up buying a different trim level just to be rid of the toilet fixtures. Or I might end up spending a lot of cash to buy the non white fixtures from the parts department so I could have the trim level I desire. I've already suggested a 3rd party option to supply non white parts as a kit. I have a friend who owns a plastics forming business.

I'm sure there will be some who like those white components (I don't remember reading any positive comments on PriusChat though), but it seems very many do not like them. I would hope Toyota would take the negative reaction into account and make them a separate line item instead of part of a trim or option package.

Does anyone have a picture of the back seat area? There are a couple pictures of the seat, one or two of the floor and the 12V outlet, but I haven't found an overall picture of the back seat area like there are several for the front seat area.

I have to say I really think they missed a chance on the back end of the car. They should have followed the brake lights along the spoiler/lip. Make it one long red brake light.

It has grown on me a little for the rear end, however the front is kind of meh for me still. The interior, while nice they disposed of all the green led and replaced it with better colors, the white inserts are what kills me. I can't imagine having white as an interior color on anything. I'd go crazy trying to keep that clean. Hopefully they will have options like different colors or maybe Piano Black?

The white is an option, among other options.

Oh... I just noticed the new Prius does away with the split glove box design! I really liked it as the top box I put my registration, proof of insurance, copy of my drivers license, and a garage remote for my in-laws house. I thought that was great. Didn't have to dig around for that stuff in the standard glove box. I actually miss that in my TCH.
