Let's simmer down a little bit. Last night the only way we had to provide any photos in real time was with mobile phones. DSLR photos are being uploaded to the Reveal media album right now. We also simultaneously shot the walk-through video with a very expensive DSLR camera in full HD. It'll be a few days until I can get that edited and posted.

Periscope was a fantastic tool to provide live video from the event. I'm proud of our coverage.

It's 16 minutes total. I'll try to post the video on YouTube at some point, too.

As well you should be. I'm sure I speak for many when I say thanks again for the real time coverage! It let us get a great first look right after the official content-free reveal, saving the event from being just a PR beauty shot; production value was not the point of the exercise, timeliness was. Knowing there's higher-res stuff on its way soon is a bonus. A lot of us were glad to get this, and I'm sorry if you've been getting more griping than gratitude, but that's not a reflection of general sentiment. Keep up the good work!

Is there under-floor storage? I didn't see mention of it. I really like the under-floor storage. I can hide expensive things like computers and cameras under there and the trunk looks empty from the outside.

    You guys did great! (y)

Welcome to my (former) hell except I sometimes had to do it two or three times a day. Although I enjoyed my decades in the excitement and lack of boredom of broadcast news, I'm soooooo glad to no longer be under all the stress. I decided to get out when I noticed that most of the old timers were heavy drinkers or chain smokers or had ulcers. :(

No. Under the floor is space in cutouts in styrofoam for spare tire if applicable, tire goo if applicable, tonneau cover etc. No storage 'bin' as gen 2 and 3 had.

Geeze...looks like they got rid of many of the main reasons I bought my Prius. Where am I supposed to put my emergency toolbox and blankets? Where in the front do I store snacks, kleenex, sunglasses, my work badge and parking pass, and my trash bag?

Did the "traditional" ones have under-floor storage?

One of the cool things about my 2nd gen Prius (and I'm assuming the 3rd as well) was the thought that went into storage and practical configuration. It was awesome that the 2nd gen could allow a nearly flat surface across the entire interior by removing the rear seat headrests and moving the front seats fully forward and down.

I have the impression that it's no longer possible with the Lithium-ion models. Even on the NiMH I have the impression that the front and rear seats now won't fold flat like that anymore.

And this just in.... Periscope to add Landscape camera option:

Periscope finally lets you view and broadcast in landscape

it amazes me that toyota says they are 'listening', but each gen reduces storage and practicality.

this one seems to be about performance, handling and styling. which were complaints from some as well, but why throw out the baby with the bath water?

This is exactly the reason I'm currently looking at 2012s coming off lease instead of a 2016.

And where is the Prius Team in all of this? Other than the video, I haven't seen a word from them.

It's all about compromises. Now, I think they could have done a better job with the glove box area...I can't believe they couldn't make more room there. But the under floor storage I suspect was necessary to address other weight and handling issues as well as in anticipation of the Plug-in battery pack. The hatch door appears to raise higher, so perhaps actual capacity won't change much...but no data on that yet.

I don't know about the front seats, but the rear seats do fold down flat and give an even surface as you can clearly see in this video !

In some of the models, maybe the Li-ion versions, it's not flat.

I hate the fact that toyota is offering different battery versions!

Seems odd. Did the NiMH ones have the underfloor storage, and then the spare under that? I wonder if the NiMH pack intrudes out from under the rear seat into the cargo space some; which would mean an awkward looking shelf behind the seats before the floor drops down without a floor/cover.

I suspect it will take away the spare, and then start filling up the lower cargo floor area. It will get a flat floor cover with the amount of available underfloor storage dependent on just how big the battery is.
Appearantly none with the Li-ion pack. Getting rid of the floor/cover let's Toyota include that previous underfloor space in official cargo space specs. Does this mean the car lost cargo space from the gen3?
The tonneau cover should be enough to hide stuff from prying eyes, and that was all earlier hatchbacks and wagons had.
You think the gen1 to gen2 was a reduction?;)

They're busy working. They're still in Las Vegas for the National Dealer Meeting. It was difficult to find Erica and have her do an intro in the Periscope because she was busy with other things.
