Featured 2016 Gen 4 Prius Reveal Set for September 8th

I think that's a huge advance IMO. There are so many Prius owners that are into "tech", but not so much into cars per se. I'm talking about actual driving, the experience, the feel, you know, Car Guys. If you can keep them happy for the most part, and draw in a far larger audience because of the styling, and whatever, everyone wins.

Hardly anyone in about 95% of the car-buying target thinks it's "sad". Reliability is a huge factor for sure, but given car sales in general, not the number one concern, and certainly not mpg's.

My first impression is: Uggg.......ly.

Maybe it will grow on me but I think I would have to drive it with a bag over my head.

 

I think it looks MUCH more sleek and aggresive than the 3rd gen Prius (on the exterior).. I don't have a problem at all with that black plastic insert: That is the kind of thing where someone who buys the car will forget about it in no time and people won't be talking about it negatively for long..
The extra crease near the rear taillight is a is ok.

Basically, the car looks good from many different angles.

The interior? Hmm. Is that white tray for the American market too? Front seatbacks look like lot more shoulder support.

Oh, noticed that the upper glove box seems to be gone.

Is that fixed height headrests on the front seats? Shape looks like might be. If so, man, what other car has that besides Tesla Model S's? RISKY maneuver to make fixed height headrests is that's the case.

 

but not forgotten. each new issue loses more storage.

OMG. All that white plastic accent in the dash and interior has got to go. That is a show stopper for me.

 

Nice side angle shots. Is it just me, or are the front ends different between the red and blue cars? Looks like the blue one has the bug catcher, and the red one is less high.

 

Regarding the 59 U.S. mpg displayed on these embargoed leaks:

Lets accept that the Euro spec, like Japan, is more generous than the more real world U.S. EPA specs. Still, shouldn't the dash display read the same real fuel consumption per unit distance in any Prius around the world?

So what I am asking, is would Toyota chance posting fuel efficiency on a dash shot that wasn't achievable by the majority of Prius drivers in Europe or elsewhere?

and sorry, i can't love this. the rear end is absolutely ridiculous, i have no idea what's going on in the rear quarter panel and around it, and what is up with that steering wheel with the white? and I still don't understand why toyota insists on making the shifter so prominent. on any given drive, you use it once, to put the car intro drive. maybe you reverse once or twice. why on earth does it need to take up all that space and have a dedicated section on the dash for it? same with the drive modes…how often do you change that? once a year?

 

the shifter is disappointing, i was hoping for something higher tech.

 

I use B two or three times on my trip home from work every day.

 

The business for aftermarket "white-out" for the interior ugliness should be fairly brisk. If that white is for all trim levels, consider my order in right now.

 

I think Ford did a much better revision on the Mustang overall LOL
