That's pretty normal we have $2.65 in north Virginia. Paid $1.97 in Jersey for the same quality gaso. We have about 10 cents more tax than Jersey, so I should be $2.10 range...so I got 50 cents more gouging or possibly a little higher distribution cost than Jersey.

I am upset at local elected officials for not trying to minimize using us as profit cows. I see our cheapo price is now $2.20 so my analysis is not too far off.

This also got me to wondering how Toyota plans to market the Gen 4 prius if gas prices keep dropping and staying "low" like it currently is.

If it's just "Gen 3 but with 55-60 mpg!", I don't think that'll really impress too many people, due to the intense competition coming out now from other automakers. And the fact that regular ICE cars have increasingly been getting "good enough" 35-40 mpg econoboxes, which makes it cheaper to run than a prius ever will due to that hybrid premium, especially at low gas prices.

For me, it would have to have AWD, much faster and better performance (shave at least 1-2 seconds off the 0-60 time), and for the plug-in version, at least 30 EPA rated miles.

Otherwise I'll just get a Gen 2 Volt, or a dirt cheap Gen 1 if I can find one, which may not have as much cargo room and worse mpg in hybrid mode, but it's just me in the car 99% of the time and I plan to plug it in everyday, so it doesn't bother me as much anymore.

Gas price has held steady here at $1.87 for a few weeks now. After the Labor Day traveling is over I think it will go down more--- all across the country. They always gouge at holidays, pick up a few billion.

Gas prices are hovering around $2.49 near where I live. But others are already dropping to $2.37 or so. Once it drops below around $2.09 or so, then it's cheaper for me to drive the prius vs driving an EV to work.

Not that it's going to stop me from getting a plug-in at some point however. If anything I'll use the "low gas prices" as a bargaining chip to try and haggle an even better deal.

I find it hard to call it 'gouging' when most of the country is seeing the lowest Labor Day prices in 11 years, i.e. since the Hurricane Katrina price spike. And your region is running well below the county's average.

Bought gas today (Shell) $2.089 (Regular 87 Octane)

Cheapest on gas buddy is $1.89 in the Houston area.

It was real nice to fill up with a half tank and get almost nine dollars back from a $20 bill.

Without going into politics, gas prices are low because the market's currently being flooded with supply. Once the factors behind this move balance out, you can expect prices to go WAY up again.

If you don't want to pay the "premium" of a Prius for the extra MPGs, there are some good ICE-only cars that get respectable mileage for less money.

Some morons are going out and buying pickups and SUVs thinking this reprieve in gas prices justifies buying them, but once the prices go back up, they'll be the first to complain about it.

Yes, the way the industry is it won't be long before gas is outragious again. In my opinion, it is expensive now. I can remember when it was $.359 and they had gas wars. I also remember the gas lines, even odd days, and green/red pennants.

Enjoy the cheap prices cause they wont last forever. And for those who really think the gas is cheap right now, imagine this. A bottle of Coke for ten cents and a "Almond Joy" for a dime. I saw all of that and more. Inflation sucks...

...I talk about about "gouging" in the local sense, as I feel Virginia tax policy to lower gaso taxes, puts our region in a disadvantage against MD PA other raising gaso taxes. In other words, we will tend to pay the same $/gal no matter what our state taxes are to be even with MD. So if Jersey is paying $2 bucks/gal I should be $2.10 but we are $2.60 so we got a regional higher profit margin. which I am not really blaming gaso stations, but rather elected officials for tax policies which hurt our region.

Yup. My last fill up was back in February so gas prices have nearly zero effect on this plug-in owner. I also have a 3 year lock on electricity prices so no surprises there either.

This thread is nearly a month old yet I have only seen gas prices steadily drop over .15 cents locally over that time frame.

just filled my daughter's minivan while i'm out here in Nashville for a few days. If prices like this can't give rise to a gas tax - then nothing can; 2015-09-12 13.23.33.jpg 20150912_130759-1.jpg
