The reputation in my family is that Prius is a Grandparents car. We live in San Luis Obispo, CA and we are both around 70 years old with five grand-kids. San Luis Obispo has a very high concentration of Prius vehicles running around since the town prides itself of many "green" ordinances; the town also has high concentration of wealthy people with many fancy cars. However, there is no question that most drivers look to me up in their age.

Would you believe I was in my early 20's ? Just kidding...

There was a survey done by UC Davis that looked at why and the profiles of people who bought electric vehicles...(they were doing a study on green / white stickers and number of free charging stations.). I can not find the information about that but someone on this site should know where it is.

Purchased (or began financing I guess is more accurate) my C at 22, my PiP at 23, and my LEAF at 24, but now I have to actually finish paying them off so my next one won't be until a few years from now ;) I guess I'm in the younger demographic around here :D

Bought my first one at age 50, eleven years after I switched to a better Plug-In for better performance and comfort.
We had been a loyal Prius owner for almost 12 years.

Wow - didn't realize the thread was over 3 yrs old. I'm now in my last year of under 60. In the mean time, I bought my middle child a Prius V and she loves the car (2014 model). The oldest got a 2010 Prius liftback which she adores, and my youngest is getting the used blue prius seen in my profile picture (2010 model). They all love the practical useful features of the Prius and all are under 30. My son, the youngest would rather have a model S, but that isn't going to happen and is quite happy with the "free" 2010 Prius. They all saved me more money than the value of a car by getting awesome college scholarships, so it's the least I could do for them. The youngest will get a new one (or a contribution towards a new one) when the 2010 doesn't do the trick for him anymore. I don't see people being afraid of the hybrid technology like they used to be circa 2005.

It will still be around. Might not pay out as early or quite as much. But it will definitely be around.

I am 34 years old and love my 2012 Advance Tech Package PIP... Did I say I love it? I do. Ive had it for just over a year now. Before this I had a 2010 Prius Package 5 and I loved that one too until a nice lady, who was HOT and from Texas, jumped in front of on-coming traffic and thanks to her my Prius was totaled. No one was seriously hurt and it all worked out well! I got me a better Prius as a result, which is my current 2012 PIP!

My mom, who is in her early 70s leased a new 2010 Prius, ended up buying it after the lease, and still has it, now its paid off.

My mom, in her mid 80s would get too confused as to whether or not the car was on or off. Now that I think about it, will the elderly have trouble with electric cars, especially when they get to that age where they should really be giving up their keys, but refuse to?
