No, not when you have an option to get out of the left lane.

I would so love to be in front of any judge trying to penury me for doing the exact speed limit in the left lane, if he actually declared me in the wrong, and fined me, I'd sue;)

The myth that you have to break the law to obey the law is a moneymaker...

Just drive the speed limit and get good mpg's, or break it and have no legs to stand on, should an actual judge be deciding your fate, not some pipe dream as is being assumed here.

And lose. Hew is the applicable NH law Section 265:16 Drive on Right Side of Roadway; Exceptions.

"II. Upon all roadways any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic, or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway."

Ah, so show me where it states you can go over 55, the NH speed limit, unless otherwise posted.

Show me any court in the U.S. That imposed a fine for going to slow while legally speeding, I think this might get lucrative.

I think the fine would for not being in the right hand lane when slower than the normal speed of traffic.
Note that is says normal speed of traffic, not the legal speed limit and I suspect that it would be pretty easy to demonstrate that the normal speed is somewhat above the speed limit in most places.
Even if you get an unusual judge who is sympathetic to people who block traffic and aggravate people because they think they can, how confident are you that your speedo is exactly precise and your speed never drops below the speed limit?
I don't know if this kind of case ever goes to a jury but if it does, how do you think you would fare? I think you might end up being guilty of both speeding and not being in the right hand lane and there would be public acclamation at the decision

I think it is pretty clear, a person shouldn't even be in the left lane unless he/she is passing.

Besides, if traffic is going 70 to 75 mph and moving along, and the speed limit is 65 mph, I have seen cops don't care because everyone goes with the flow of traffic.

Ever be on the freeway driving briskly and it is all clear... then all of the sudden you come to a wolf pack of cars with all lanes occupied resulting in you having to slow down? Well, that prick hugging the left lane was the cause of that wolf pack by not letting anyone pass...

I do not have to, read the law, you are in violation at ANY speed on a freeway, if you are not passing those to your right. (if it is not a freeway, you may be taking a left turn.)

The problem is 'not keeping to the right when not passing.'

If you ever venture out of the Granite State and try your left-lane vigilante justice act, that's exactly where you may wind up.....in front of a jury.
You won't have a problem finding an attorney that will represent you if you decide to fight the ticket, but I'd ask about something called sovereign immunity before threatening the judge with a lawsuit.
I'd also spend a little money on getting some expert witnesses to explain to the court why you have one of the few known Priuses with a precise speedometer.

This is why they spend so much money on signs stating that it's against the law to hang out in the left hand lane unless you're passing, and this is why there are poll questions about Priuses being traffic plugs.

It's not the car that's the problem.

True or False: Prius = Left Lane Hugger

So......anybody out there still believe that this is false? :D

You seem to think that the cop isn't going to notice all the speeding cars, which as I recall is his job to prevent, theoretically, the cop is going to give speeding tickets to speeders, you know, the ones going over the speed limit.
If a cop gives me a ticket for not speeding, but obstructing traffic, I will with lawyer in hand explain my case and continue my day.
Why would anyone, ever, impede traffic? But they do, when they are going below the speed limit, if they are going the speed limit, they are part of the traffic, if others wAnt to speed, they can, and they can recieve a ticket and fine for speeding.
What other laws do allyaall....regularly break?

I don't know what to tell you.

It's like many things in life.
    Example: Jazz Music.

Either you get it and no explanation is necessary,
.....or you don't and no explanation will suffice.

I frequently break a rule about arguing on the internet.

You completely misunderstand my stance, it is not 'speed all you want' it is 'be a good driver and get out of the way'. Speeders dodge when idiots obstruct them in the lane they belong in, if they come right, I risk being an innocent bystander in their bad day.

I see people offended by folks passing them on the right, WHY is there room on your right to pass you? If you were following the law, there would not be.

I drive mainly on two lane roads where my goal is to pass as many vehicles as I am passed by, that indicates I am averaging the common speed. (I mostly pass farm equipment) On four lane roads I keep right over 90% of the time as I am only passing vehicles under the maximum speed for a car. I rarely travel on roads with more than 4 lanes.

So are you saying it is ok to be "that guy" hugging the left lane and driving the speed limit?

No, I'm saying I'm not going to speed and if I get a ticket for not speeding I'll take a lawyer to court with me.
    (Theoretically)
I use radar detector, for the purpose of knowing where the radar is, so I know when the idiots speeding in the left lane are going to dive into the right lane, and take the proper precautions to avoid the SPEEDERS ;) ;)
