About 3 weeks ago I bought 2014 Prius Two. Was purchased as A Certified Pre Owned. At first I thought I just got a bad pump at the gas station. It's now been 5 fill ups at three different stations and same problem every time. The fuel pump clicks almost instantly when trying to fill. I've tried different angles and manage to get a few gallons in before it prematurely clicks. I've resorted to holding the pump at the minimum flow to to get a consistent flow until fill up. Any ideas?car is under warranty so will probably just take it to the dealer. If it something quick and easy fix I'd rather just do it myself over the weekend.. I've ran the gas low most fill ups and topped off.
Our Benz does the same thing, only way to fill up, is to push in and pull up on the handle.....it sucks.
I feel it's the pump, sometimes it happens to me, sometimes it doesn't........and I fill up at the same place almost all the time.
hold the nozzle half way out and side ways so you can hear air coming out as the gas is going in...its the only way to fill it, I fill up every 300 miles to be on the safe side..i get 140 miles before it drops below full then 60 miles full to half ..I don't trust the gauges
Previous owner may have had the habit of topping off at every fill. Do this enough times and the charcoal canister in the evaporative emission system can get clogged. Had this on a Camry...$475!! Should be no charge fix on a certified car.
Thanks for all the help guys, decided I'm taking it to the dealer, just waiting to get my Wifes Camry back from a recall job before taking my Prius to them. Beachbummm - I tried that on my last fillup, didn't help at all.
