    Yup.

Yes, but I don't that's changed much in the last year though. Our dollar has dropped tho, and when I googled a bit there was some articles saying lead is hard to come by. And part of the reason is due to (wait for it): global warming. Drivers are hanging onto their batteries longer, with mild winters. And a lot of the lead was coming from recycled batteries.

Well my wife drove the width and breadth of greater Vancouver last evening, no lights, no nothing: self-healing car?

    Not complaining, knock-on-wood...

I get that symbol ALL THE TIME, but I don't worry because all it means is that traction loss/control has kicked in.

I live on a gravel driveway, and depending on how I hit ruts, I lose traction going up and coming down. Outside of that, it's always happened after something like hitting a pothole or a slick spot. Never while normal braking on good pavement.

    STILL....

I've had this "strange" event I can't really reproduce on demand, so I hope it's nothing. I've been stopped and heard a BRRAAAAAAPPPP sound and a vibration come from the brake pedal. It's happened with the vehicle stopped....not while braking. My guess is that a caliper is "releasing" or "readjusting"...perhaps in response to a change in input from the brake pedal, but because it's not happening regularly, I don't know if it's something to run by Toyota to check out. I'll take a close and careful look when I rotate tires this weekend, but unless it happens more predictably, I know the techs will just tell me they can't reproduce the problem and hand me a bill.

The traction control system does double duty: comes on momentarily when TC kicks in, and comes-on-and-stays-on if there's a problem.

Unfortunately ours is the latter. Fortunately it's kept quiet since last Sunday, when I took that pic, pulled over.

Regarding your sound, all I can think: does it sound like the parking brake not quite locked, on a slope? You know: when the car manages to roll an inch or so, and you hear a shudder from the rear brake? Grasping at straws.

No. Sound is definitely from the front (from what I can tell).

Honda Civic (maybe just the hybrid?) had a brake master cylinder "flatulence" issue, some bellows leaking air.

Mendel- Consider yourself lucky that it was not the outrageously expensive brake booster or master cylinder that was bad and buy a new 12V battery before the price increases from $275 to $300. Your almost five year old OEM 12V battery is on life support and about to die.

I know. Except, it's reading 12.68 volt last time I checked.

Yes, but the voltage may not be consistently at that level. When it drops is when you get the warning lights. It really appears to be just marginal battery performance due to its age and condition. New battery, problem solved.
