Well I just tried a bunch of configurations on mine and they do light up! I have the Prius v with technology package (Canada) and if I leave the headlights switch to auto, the LED headlights are on and so are those 2 strips!

Wonder if it possible to have the strips on along with the fog lights.

Thanks for the clarification. An interesting oddity that some advertising and manuals refer to something that was never supplied.

My DRL add-on kit functions just as the pages you supplied suggest. They come on when power is pushed and when the light stalk is in the off position. I'd prefer them to be located higher but at least they look stock, are LEDs and work without me remembering to have to trigger them.

Their big downside was price. Would have been so cheap to supply them at the factory.

It's a Canadian model, we only have three trims - Standard (Base), Luxury (Mid) and Tech (High). Mine is a Standard, not sure what that equates to in the US.

Ok, you want some oddity - here is a picture of the fuse box/relay panel in the engine bay. Note the DRL relay and 7.5A fuse.

In the interest of science, I pulled them both (and one at a time) and... nothing happened. The DRL's still function normally, no error lights, no codes, full functionality of headlights/high beams. How can that be?

So I'm no further ahead re: the idea of swapping the DRL high beams for alternate beams.

And on that note, I've pulled back the fender/air skirt panel to see that the lights in question are in fact just reflectors, not wired up and don't even have a hole to run wires. Any changes to them would require drilling and mounting what I assume would be a whole LED module.

Based on offline's comments, I've found the answer I was looking for - thanks!

And Rico - thanks for the pic, they seem to be additional DRL's for Canadian cars with the LED lights.
    Because... more light?

I've seen them both, along with the fuse diagrams and descriptions in the Owners Manual!
