I agree. I want my gauges behind the wheel. That's not a deal breaker but a major annoyance. We took a look at the V but that gauge setup was worse then the sedan. We didn't buy a V and the gauge placement had a lot to do with that decision.

One thing is off my deal beaker list. It looks like the flying bridge is gone. We skipped Gen III for that reason.

 

Hopefully the 2016 Prius mpg computer will be more accurate than our 2010 Prius. Its still off after 130,000 miles by 2.5-3.5 mpg over read.
So even if the 2016 Prius mpg computer is off the same amount mpg should be at least 53 mpg true....

 

I don't knowledge beyond what I have gleaned from articles and discussions on test mules.
I do know that the EPA allows hand built cars to be used for the emission and fuel economy tests. It gives an edge in the rest results because time can be taken to make sure all the pieces are perfectly aligned, with things like panel gaps made as narrow as possible. The official reason is likely to allow the manufacturer to submit results for review well before model production and launch in order to not have the review process delay anything.

So it is entirely possible for several test mules to be built. They also might need pieces of the car on hand for the final design of the production line.

 

Call me slow, but I just realized that the steering wheel from the 4th-gen pre-pro proto is directly off of the Mirai.

It is probable that the dashtop & driving instruments architecture is much like that of the Mirai as well: bi-level across the entire cabin, with the upper level terminating and blending into the A-pillars. The lower level terminates and blends into the door trim. No part of the dash will obstruct the view out the side and forward/down.

 

Agree! share parts with next Gen IV, also looking at center display, Nav/Radio unit, Gen IV screen has the HVAC below the nav/radio unit.

Mirai also has 153hp e-motor/253 ft-lb, will see!!!!.

 

I think what we are seeing here is the Plug - in and not the regular Prius !
There are fuel openings left and right !
Also for a car which is going to be uncoverd in just about a month it seems to look quite uncompleted !
What really worries me though is where is the colour in the instrument panel ?
Don't tell me it's going to be monochrome once again !

What an early mule if that's a plug-in, which supposedly won't be ready until at least the 2017 model. Hoping they've come to their senses...

 

well, you also don't want it to light up like a Christmas tree. I think it will share center display, head unit and steering wheel with Totota Mirai.

Well, how many years has Toyota been designing and manufacturing cars? 60 Years? I would imagine they have the process of design and manufacturing engineering, pre-production testing and so forth well under control.

 

Could be. But this will be the first year for the new (can't recall the name) "standardized" platform. I'd suppose there is very little in common with last years design.

I wrote earlier that the shape of the new Prius looked like the small brother of the Mirai and indeed: the inside has also similarities...
