Toyota rep: If you buy the Mirai, you pay for the hydrogen yourself

    Toyota Tackles Hydrogen Fueling Challenges As Mirai Launch Approaches


    This brings up an interesting subject. If Toyota drops the cost of the Mirai by $15k if you buy it, what does that imply for the cost of hydrogen fuel?

    and where do you fill it up?

    they keep wasting time and money on these cars no one wants when all they need is a turbo diesel prius that gets 80 mpg

    I brought up that question in another thread that released the $15k cap info. For the lease, it seems Toyota is allowing for a possible @$27/kg. Another question is will the stations be set up to charge customers that bought the Mirai? Is that what Toyota meant by Mirai ready stations in the other article?

    But the Prius didn't require billions of dollars in new infrastructure to become viable.

    You can already drive cross-country in an EV. Good luck doing that on hydrogen. Which is a wiser investment of public funds in this scenario if you want to cut off the oil spigot?

    cutting off the oil spigot is not the objective of those in charge of the funds.

    Too bad hydrogen production pollutes as much (or nearly as much) as the production of other fossil fuels.

    yes, unfortunate. however, the question for the future should be, if they are both made from renewables, what other variables make one more attractive than the other.

    We have also outlined the following options for qualified 2016 Toyota Mirai customers:
    • Trailblazer APR Support: 0% for 60 months + $7,500 or
    • Trailblazer Purchase Support of $7,500 , or
    • Trailblazer Lease: $499 per month for 36 months, $3,649 due at signing

    gas was less than $1.50 when the prius came out so the up front cost wasn't worth it, like now that gas is below 2.50 (some places under 2.00) there is little interest in them, used car lots near me are flooded with them so as a private seller I cant give mine away for a fair price.

    so they will give me $7500 to drive it off the lot and zero percent for 5 years?
    not much faith in a product that has not hit the streets yet.
    I hear chevy is trying to dump their 2013 - 2014 brand new volts for insanely low prices because the battery's are dying on the dealers lots and they don't want to replace them.
    There are still 6,000 first-gen Chevy Volts on dealer lots

    A) There is a difference between "not much faith" and introducing a new vehicle to the market and wanting to get them out on the road.
    B) Chevy dealers definitely want to move the last of the first gen Volts before the next gen arrives.
    I don't see why you would add the bit about the batteries though, as the Volt batteries have been holding up better than any other plugin vehicle. The batteries aren't "dying on the lot".

    the chevy dealer near me in florida has 4 on the lot marked do no sell, when I asked why he says bad batts and chevy will not authorize replacements..cars are being sent back

    He's probably referring to the small 12v batteries found in hybrids.

    Yep, costly. Which leads one to believe it is more likely the li-ion battery in this anecdotal case.

    I don't think they would refuse to sell a $30,000 car over an $80 battery (not that Id ever buy a gm product in the first place, but it is a good place to score cheap cars before they go to the auction, so Im always looking)
