Has anyone tried other vehicle OEM wheels on a Gen-2 Prius?

Has anyone tried other vehicle OEM (non-Toyota) wheels on a Gen-2 Prius?

I was looking for 17" wheels on eBay for my 2009 Gen-2 Pruis and I while I was searching I noticed that eBay stated that Scion Tc and some VW wheels are compatible with a 2010 (Gen III) Prius. But for some reason they were NOT identified as being compatible with a 2009 Prius.

I checked and both the Gen-2 and Gen III have the same bolt pattern: 5x100.
Any ideas why it wouldn't be compatible? maybe the offset? - which I don't care about anyway, the stock wheels are too tucked and need to get moved out closer to the opening anyway!
I was thinking maybe the width of the wheel? I know the Gen-2 Prius will take a 205 width tire without issue, but I don't know about anything bigger than that.

Has anyone tried fitting a Scion Tc or VW 17" wheel to their Gen-2? or has any one been successful in properly fitting a OEM Non-Toyota wheel to a Gen-2 Prius?

I'm sure some of you are thinking why not just buy after-market wheels. And most of the time I would, but I found that some of these wheels look really good, and can be bought really cheap. Crazy-Rays a Salvage yard not to far from me sells OEM wheels for $30 - $55 each. At $55 each, that's $220 for a full set of good looking 17" wheels. You can't beat that! That's like the price for one wheel from anywhere else...

I've searched the forums, but haven't found anything.
If you have any knowledge regarding something like this please let me know.

I bought motegi traklites 16x7 40mm backspace. any less backspace will stick out and hit the fender, so that's one consideration. they came with 225 tires; NFW will those tires fit, so I'm gonna try 215. its gonna be close.
another factor is many wheels are way too heavy and will kill your MPG and acceleration. got to stick with light wheels or your not gonna like what it does to your driving experience. a friend put enkei rpf1's on his Honda, and said they did improve driving cause they're pretty light too.
I had to watch ebay for like a year before the traklites showed up. I think it was worth the wait. waiting on one more tire and then i'll post pix

I have Toyota 86/BRZ/TC 16" wheels on my gen 2, the fronts require a small spacer (about 4-5mm is ample). Rears fit fine, I'm thinking about putting a bolt on 20-25mm spacer on the rears however as they sit in just a bit (nothing overly noticable, I'm just a bit picky).

Scion FR-S/Subaru BR-Z wheel look and fit nicely. You will need small bolt on spacers for front .Expect mileage to take a hit approx 5 MPG. 00w0w_9SlvEYKk8G4_600x450.jpg

His are 6 star, not like the 5 star you posted. Very nice, but not what I'm looking for. I really like the Competition Type C style SSR Wheels

Just difficult to find 19" 5x100 without paying full price.. some ~$700 per wheel...

Lexus CT200h, Scion TC before new body style, Subaru WRX (non STI), Corolla, Matrix. Just keep in mind you may need spacers and/or hubcentric rings. VW and Audi TT have the same bolt pattern up to a certain year (05 for Jetta/Golf) but not sure about the center bore. 17" BBS wheels from a MKIV Jetta GLI would be sweet.

My favorite OEM wheels that fit the prius are the CT200h or 2015 Corolla S.

I ended up buying a set of SSR 17" wheels and tires from RAMTART. For Sale - Forged 13lb JDM SSR Comp Type-C Wheels 17x7.5 W/LRR Primacy Tires | Page 2 | PriusChat Thanks Ram, 69Shovlhed, Justdidit and all the other comments which helped me make my decision to buy the SSR's while they were available. They might be a bit pricy for some, but comparable in price, if not less than heavier 17" wheels & tires from Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels or Wheels | Rims I'll make sure to post pictures when they arrive.

This will look nice. It looks like your Prius is silver?

I might just stick to my stock 15" wheels and buy new Ecopia EP422 + tires. Then install rear stiffener, strut brace and 1" lowering springs to make it ride/handle better and still be fuel efficient. This would be cheaper than 17" wheels and tires.

That's w;hat I did before, just upgrade the tires. Previously I went with General Altimax tires, at one point I had 205/60R15 and they handled much better, but the Altimax tire has been discontinued, I was able to grab a complete set of 185/65/r15, but now I have really bad heel/toe wear, so it's time for new tires anyway I thought it was time to look for wheels and tires - something I've been wanting to do for a long time.

If you want to play around with different wheel sizes, use this calculator to see the difference:
    Tire size calculator

I say totally YES! to the rear stiffener, strut brace and lowering springs/coilovers - two more things to consider are front and rear swaybars. search @Justdidit list of mods. The rear progress swaybar can be swaped out in about 20 minutes or less, however swaping out the front OEM swaybar with the Matrix bar will take some time about 1.5 to 2 hours. But both are worth it! The swaybars make a world of difference.

Wheels and Tires arrived a day early! Thanks RamTart, they were packaged and protected really well!
I haven't mounted them yet, I painted them anthracite grey with plastidip, Wheel Kits and added a layer of glossifier and gave the wheels a satin look.

The directions say to wait 8 hours for the plastidip to fully dry, so I'll get them mounted tomorrow. Here are some pics:

Good advice on the suspension. I heard Corolla/matrix sway bars are a good upgrade. Was thinking of sticking with stock tire size 185/65r15 but read about handling improvements with 190/60r15. $30 more for the latter but a negligible amount.

205/60R15 works great. if you go with LRR you shouldn't lose any MPG. get the progress rear sway bar and some TRD bolts for it. quick easy mod that will make driving much more fun.

Yeah there are tons of threads on priuschat about the best wheel size - but I haven't seen any definitive answers. My gut tells me that wider with a smaller sidewall is better, but others might disagree... the smaller sidewall won't flex as much making response time and turn-in faster.

here's the wheels mounted! No issues with rubbing or anything, I'm amazed I've actually got 215's under there. The wheels are so awesome! The next step is to get it lowered. Might be several months from now, but I'll get those Megan coil-overs eventually.

I ordered SSR lugnuts from that A-Zon website. They arrived in two days from ordering, so while I was waiting for the wheels and tires to arrive, I used a gold paint marker to fill in the lettering. It might not ever be seen unless you look up close, but I don't care... I think it adds just a little bit extra... and besides I was kinda restless, excited about waiting for the wheels to arrive, so it gave me something to do while I was waiting.

damn those look good!!! looks like they tuck in just a hair better than mine too. don't forget to re-torque the lugs several times. after 20 miles and 100 at least. mine did loosen up a little during the 1st week.
