Just got my VIN assigned for my S 70D. With any luck, by the end of this month, I'll be driving this as a minor upgrade to the Plug-in-Prius. What it also means is sadly parting with my trusty '14 PiP. My third Prius, all of which were reliable, comfortable, and the best cars I ever owned.
Congratulations! The 70D is so much more compelling than the former base model. May I ask, did you get the auto-pilot hardware option?
a friend from florida said he went to take a test drive, and the saleswoman brought him out in front of the store, pushed a button on the remote, and the car came around the corner and pulled up next to them by itself. is he pulling my leg?
Thanks. It's no longer an option. The hardware is now included on every current model, as is LTE telecommunication as of May. Activating autopilot via software is $2500 before delivery, or $3000 post delivery. But yes, I paid for the activation of the hardware.
Congrats. I just visited the Tesla store in the biggest mall on the east coast the other day. The white with black rims is beautiful. My wife wants one bad but the mortgage style payments are not feasible now anyways... Lol. Random kids playing all over the 100k car..
Exciting Tesla stuff. I'm just too anal to spend that kind of money for a car at this point in my life. I'd want to detail it and keep it in the garage and look at it. I do have a BMW i3 BEV that's a compromise between my Prius Plug In and a Tesla.
Very cool, that and the winter package are the only options we selected. The items that used to be options but are now standard, IMO, will make the new base model much more popular than the old.
That is what Tesla is shooting for. Unless the store happened to have a car with the software that does that, he was pulling your leg. Nobody has seen that software yet, although the car could be part of a beta test. Did he actually get to test drive that car?
Happy trails RxLaw... my better half tells me I am scheduled for a Ca. trip in 2016 up thru to OR as she has a 50-state visit mandate...maybe I see me a few more Teslas
This feature has been misquoted. Supposedly will allow you to summon your car while on private property - the car will open the garage door, drive itself out, and meet you on the concourse of your mansion property. I'll let you know when I get my head butler to try it out. (BIG J/K HERE!!)
At this point, they are about as common as 2nd generation Prii were in October 2003 when I got my '04. Orange County, L.A. and the Bay Area probably account for 40% of worldwide Model S on the road.
there's a ton of 'em around here, and now, they're opening a store on rt 1 (the ancient road from maine to florida) dedham, mass, right next to where i used to work, an old lincoln dealership that closed recently. i won't have to go far when they come out with something i'm interested in.
Except for the fact that the software for that isn't ready. At least, no one has actually seen it in play. I doubt they'd have a sales person demoing a feature that does not exist today.
(BASTARD!! ..... oh ! ) I meant, congratulations! are you getting the high powered insanity mode? Dual chargers? .... you can always install a 100 amp breaker in your main service panel I think it's been around 2 or 3 months since I got she-who-must-be-obeyed onto the Model X wait list. .
No, just a 70D. Zero to 60 in 5.2sec is plenty insane for me, as all my cars have been in the 0-60 in 7 seconds or more category my entire life. While I considered stretching for the 85D (0-60 in 4.3), I just couldn't justify the extra $10K and additional tire purchases that would result from "launching" start-ups. And I just went for a NEMA 14-50 outlet, being installed later this week. I'm going to get the Clipper Creek 7.7kW J1772 EVSE that plugs into the 14-50. That will allow me to keep the mobile charging cord for the Tesla in the car all the time. Work has a J1772 EVSE that should give me 25 miles of charge per hour, plenty to get to and from work twice. I'll use the garage to charge only as needed, because it looks like our solar production will net out our home consumption and I NEVER want to see an electric bill north of $100 from SCE again. And, there's a Supercharger about 5 miles from work if I really want to cheap out (which is a bit oxymoronic at this point, given the outlay for my mid-life crisis). It looks like the X production line will be up in the next three weeks. Once the Design Studio pages go live on the website, we'll know the first production models will be hitting the street about a month later. I'd be guessing October-ish before we see one in the showroom.
