Ok, maybe the Prius is not part of the huge airbag recall. But looks like my 06 Tundra could be. And maybe my girlfriends 02 Matrix. Anybody been talking about this?
yes, i believe there is a takata thread somewhere. but i think you're right about prius. the whole thing is a disaster that should never have happened.
I agree Bisco, just take my chances in my Tundra each day, they don't know if the replacements will be any better, go figure.
Yep, pretty sure it is, if it applies to my Tundra. Knock on wood, I have never been in a collision .
i think the fear is that it goes off while you're driving, due to corroded wiring from warm, humid climates.
Actually it is detonation instead of rapid inflation. Detonation blows the bag apart instead making an energy absorbing bag. Bob Wilson
ya, i was never an airbag fan. they've performed better than i expected though, i thought we'd have more problems on a regular basis.
just got the recall notice. 'sorry, we don't have any replacement parts at this time. we'll notify you when we do.' in the meantime, please do not get in an accident. i just rec'd notice on my '05 dakota. unfortunately, they do not have the parts to do the recall yet. so, i guess drive safely and avoid accidents is the mantra.
You live in a fairly humid place. When your schedule permits, and things slow down at your local Toyota stealer, please reconsider. It's not an immediate action item, but I'd pencil it in for sometime in the near future. Contrary to popular contrary rumors, I've never suffered a brain injury from a motorcycle accident, but I still wear the helmet whether my state requires one or not. There's just no advantage to not doing so. Good Luck!
? I assume the replacements will not use the same ammonium nitrate pyrotechnic that was the root cause of the problem? Everything You Need to Know About the Takata Airbag Recall - Consumer Reports News Toyota Immediate action is recommended if your vehicle registered in the coastal areas around the Gulf of Mexico, including Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. Toyota also says that if you do not follow the instructions in the owner letter to have the work performed, then you should not drive your vehicle. Note: I'll probably bump this CR guide up to a stand alone thread, but give me any feed back on that...in particular I'd like to know if any plug-ins or hybrids are impacted by the recall. I will comply with whatever I have to do with my eventual air bag replacement. Honestly , I'm not for sure if there will be an answer to the current airbag issue. Hate to be a pessimists , but I have lost my faith in Takata. Maybe one day, they may win me over, but not right now.
i know, hard to believe, right? but times have changed. as i've toured the country over the past 15 years, i'd say we're on a pretty level playing field. the disease has spread from boston, and the whole country is sick.
My recall notice came the other day. It's for the passenger side airbag only. That was a relief , it's usually vacant, being a work truck.06 Tundra. Since truck is registered in North Carolina, I got the notice from that State. So when they get the part, it will be fixed. Time will tell... I'm not always in Fla,
We got the recall for the passenger side airbag on our CRV last summer. We thought were done, till we got the recall notice for the driver side airbag last week! Same thing happened on one of our 3-Series BMW's... we got the driver side airbag recall notice last summer.... last month we then got the passenger side airbag recall notice for the same car. We since bought a second 3-Series and got no notices for that car- but upon calling the dealership we find it's on the list to have both airbags replaced. This whole airbag recall campaign has been handled terribly!
