I thought it couldn't be done but I'm living proof. I had my key on the seat and forgot all day. The wife put a stroller in the back and locked the car with her key. I go out this morning and its locked. I tried a coat hanger on the unlock button. I can push it down but its not responding.
I can send a video of my key on the seat and trying to open a door. She is at work. I'm late to a birthday party for my friends kid. Grrrrr Uber is bannd in my area.
Is your wife pi$$ed at you? It really takes some effort to lock a fob in a Prius, it will beep at you like crazy and refuse to lock. Then I I believe you have to use the mechanical key and manually lock the car.
wow, i didn't realize that was happening. i just can't think of a way into the car. did you push the rocker switch the right way?
if the key is inside the car touching the handle should open the door, the fob is clearly in range of the car.. or press the black button next to the handle... it sounds like the smart key function is disabled somehow.... are you sure you are not trying to break into a neighbors locked car to steal change from the cup holder???
The range on the SKS antenna is very limited, you need to be very close to the antenna in the door. Resting on the seat, inside the car, may not be within range.
isn't the SKS box in the center of the car behind the rear seat cupholder? so the fob would be less than a foot away.. anyway...take the coat hanger and hook the fob and pull it out the door opening...you can make an opening in the door jam near the top of the window with a stick, crushed soda can, even an inflatable blood pressure cuff if you have one..happy fishing
The only thing I can guess is with all the NON metallic stuff close to it, it must be shielding it. And its pouring rain here now. Grrrr
Bummer. It does sound like you will need the other Fob to open the car if cannot fish yours out. Please ask your wife if she used the 'lock button' on the her Fob to lock the car. It would be nice to know what to avoid. You may also want to consider having a spare key someplace. Not the Fob, just the key. Interesting idea! Then the unlock door switch should work ... presumably.
it wouldn't matter which method she used, the problem is the car did not detect the key in the car....a void area. Also the gen3 key is not a regular key like gen2. Wouldn't be easy to come across one of those keys. or he can somehow open the windows.......but since the fob is in a void area, he might have to first be able to move the fob
and yet, so many have tried to lock their fob in the car to go surfing, without success. it would take quite a concoction to push the start button with something that will squeeze between the glass and rubber.i never noticed that the 3rd gen key was different. car-ma
I've seen this done, rescued my brother when he locked the key in the car. He had a bunch a crap in the cup holder and placed the key in it too. Maybe something shielded the key.
