This is probably not just for PiPs, but while I like most of our PiP systems, two things I don't like.

One is the left elbow has no support while driving. Can anyone explain a reason why there is no left arm support anywhere near comfortable for anybody driving this car?

The second issue I have is with Toyota's cruise control design of setting it initially by a down movement of the lever. The down control movement is the slow-down once the cruise control is set; a very logical design, as is the up movement to speed up once the cruise control is set. My design change is to move the initial setting of the cruise control to a forward push of the lever which is currently unused and it would be more logical to me. Sharing the initial cruise control setting with the slow-down movement is not logical.

Anyone else have found these or other pet peeves with the current design?

    Al

On the Advanced with the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, pushing the cruise control lever forward disengages the radar and makes it revert to old-fashioned fixed speed control.

Your timing to post about this is funny, as I have put an order for a Model S in for July delivery. The issue was what to do with our other two cars (which one to get rid of): my wife's 2010 Lexus ES, or my 2014 PiP. If she had her druthers, she'd let me choose and drive the Tesla. :) But she tried the Prius and just does not like the ergonomics. She had that same complaint about no arm support, and felt "claustrophobic" from the flying bridge console.

So, I'm parting with the PiP very regretfully, as I pointed out the PiP is four years newer, under extended warranty till 2022, and has an HOV sticker. She's adamant about sticking with her Lexus for another few years.

True that. Happy wife, happy life! (And, less urgency for her to drive the Tesla, though I already told her she can be the road trip driver. :))

Well, if you can keep her out of the driver's seat of your Tesla - except at delivery when they help you set your prefs - that might just work. LOL You can always tell her that the one you drove at the "dealer" was especially tuned to throw people back in their seats. Yours obviously won't be tuned that way.

    She might believe it.

We're taking the factory tour this summer - kind of testing out the ability to drive it up and down the state. Hopefully we won't be seen on a flatbed headed for a supercharger, LOL.

Pet peeves? I have many with my 2012 PIP, mostly to do with regressions from my former '04's design of the audio system and storage locations. Do you really want the litany?

I think traditionally set and decelerate are on the same "button". This is coming from Honda, not sure about other manufacturers. So for me, having both functions on the same downward push of the stalk is intuitive.

All-in-all I like the stalk control, works well for me.

It seems to be standardized that way with set/deccel and resume/accel being the same switch. Ford might still use buttons. It isn't better or worse, just different. The bad part is that there isn't a cancel button. So its tap the brakes or turn it off if you want to stop cruising. Early CC didn't have the cancel button either.

If you're meaning on the Prius, 3rd gen at least: pulling the stalk towards you cancels.

Yeah, there is a cancel on the Sonic stalk, but our 2001 Sable doesn't have any cancel.

Yes, we took delivery on a Model S (85) in March. It's a significant upgrade over the PiP. Of course, it also cost twice as much…

And unfortunately after you've driven your Tesla for a few minutes, driving a PiP in EV feels like tooling around in a golf cart.

However, the DRCC in the PiP is the equal of that in the Tesla. And as mentioned, the Advanced has a different stalk functionality.

We also own a Mercedes Sprinter-based RV with an awesome design that does not combine the set/deccel; it uses the forward movement of the lever, which is wasted on my PiP; though someone posted forward movement is used in the Advanced version for another function. We had a Honda Accord prior to the PiP and it did not behave like this cruise control either. So not sure I agree with "standard"; it probably is standard with Toyotas. The problem we have is that we seldom get on freeways, and we have to re-learn this cruise control "feature"

i have had so many toyota's, it just comes natural. but i can see why you don't find it compelling.

Me too. The cruise control works just like my 2004 Highlander that was replaced by the Prius. I suspect most (all?) Toyotas are the same
