I have a 13 prius, I don't like the factory yellow color low beam light. What's the best/proper way to make the low beam color to sharp white light? (5000k) I'm just thinking to get a set of HID bulb from ebay: HID Replacement Bulb 2pcs All Color H11 9006 9005 H4 H7 9007 H13 H10 880 H3 H1 | eBay But I'm not sure the outcome would be great by just simply changing out the low beam bulb to a 5000K one. If anybody done this and know what the best way to do it, please share with us thanks!!
You can't just put HID bulbs in the oem headlights. You need a kit with bulbs and ballasts, minimum. From the item linked in post above, item description: "I'm confused! Can I just buy these bulbs if my vehicle has factory halogen bulbs? Negative. You need an HID conversion kit already to buy these bulbs. These bulbs are for people who already have HID ballasts (aftermarket type with the shown connector)."
As xliderider pointed out, u will need the ballasts......& remember, u get what u pay for. I suggest these: H11: Morimoto Elite HID System - HID Systems from The Retrofit Source Inc Snt fm y 980 G ing Tatalk
Thanks for everyone's input, I thought our Prius has factory HID headlight LOL... So should I go 35W or 50W? 5000k or 6000k ??
35 W is just fine. As for the color temperature: 4300 K - OEM on most cars, highest output, just white 5000 K - lower output but more bluer color 6000 K - even lower output, blue color, hard to see in rain and fog You choose. - Alex
I like the 50w @ 6500K H11: Morimoto Elite HID System from The Retrofit Source the 50w pushes the 6500K to look like 4500K, you get a lot of white light with this set up. here is an install with some pictures Installed some HIDS on my '10 Prius | Page 3 | PriusChat
I also have a 2013 I'd want to upgrade to which ever one will give me the best visibility ? Can someone that has actually used them please chime in with some wisdom I don't have a clue on which one to go with Also is theres any link to a walk through on how to install maybe a video ?
What's the main difference between $50 ebay HID conversion kit VS. $100+ brand name HID conversion kit?? Both are 5000K bulb and 1 yr warranty.
I would have to say quality & customer service is the main difference DDM sells HID kits under $100 TRS sells HID kits over $100 Quality & Customer Service is what separates these 2 companies VS980 4G ?
The main difference is the price I have a 55w 5000k kit that im running w no relay that i paid 50 for 0 ZERO problems and lots of miles and time at night. Light output is fantastic
I'm deliberating whether to upgrade to HID on my Camry. The H9 bulb upgrade gave me a 50% upgrade in light output, but it's not as bright as on the Prius. The reason is that the operating voltage on the Camry is about 13.5v; whereas the Prius operates at about 14.4v off the DC to DC inverter. I'm going to make a 14 awg relay wiring harness and tap power straight from the Camry's battery to the 65w H9 bulbs. This, in theory, will increase the available amperes (current flow) available through the H9 bulbs. The oem lowbeam headlight wire gauge in the Camry seems thinner than the ones in the Prius. I'm hoping it results in brighter output, if the wiring is a limiting factor. If I don't get the desired output, I'll upgrade to 35w HID using the custom relay wiring harness. But to answer your question, a 35w HID kit might give you a 50% output increase over H9, or double the oem 55w H11 halogen bulbs. The 55w H11 HID might give you 3x the oem H11 output.
