2006 Prius with dying HV battery - OK to drive?

They tax parts separately, labor is not taxed.

If you use that plumber as example, the part they sold you most likely is less at home depot, if you were to get it yourself.

 

sales tax? hmm, would be cheaper for the customer to make it all labor.

 

some shops have a huge markup on parts, depends on how greedy the management is. one shop I worked at marked up parts frequently above dealer prices, but they encouraged us to get the cheapest aftermarket parts we could find. their business model was to screw every customer as hard as possible. I hated that company, didn't stay long.

 

Well everyone is suppose to pay taxes, if they don't charge the customer the taxes, it'll come out of their own pocket.

 

The problem with bringing your own (usually cheaper) parts, there's no guarantee from the shop. If a problem comes up, it's on you and not the shop.

Problem with parts brought in is whether they are correct.

I've had a few bad experience where customers bring in parts that are a little to short, or a little to big.
Created way more labor than what I had quoted, but I stuck by my quote to earn the business.

 

I try to use dealer parts, or name brand aftermarket parts at least. the cheapest junk at advanced auto is so poorly made by illiterate unskilled workers in Malaysia or some other 3rd world hell its just not worth it to try to make it fit.

beware when you take your car to an aftermarket shop full of commission mechanics with greedy owners. when the owner buys the cheapest part he can find, the commission mechanic needs to make money and he's just gonna make that junk part fit even if he has to damage your car in the process. it cuts into his pay if he has to do the job twice because the first part really didn't fit correctly or was obviously of inferior quality. so he bangs in on and moves on to the next ticket. sad but true.

 

Sorry to crash this conversation but I am new to forums and haven't figured out how to start a new conversation and are having battery issue. Can any of you offer advice.
Dealer said I needed new hv battery, so I had it replaced with refurbished one. It ran fine for two weeks and I started getting the same warming lights again help.

Did the dealer replace the battery or someone else? You will need to call on the warranty offered by your installer. It is possible that the refurb is faulty. It is becoming more common for this to be the case.
