Recently put 3K miles on my prius from 5/18 till today 6/15. Message came up for oil maintenance but I checked the oil and it still looks new, what should I do? How often should I change oil?
every 10,000 miles. the message comes up every 5,000 so you will remember to do the odd things like tyre rotation, cabin filter, and etc., check your o/m maint. guide. did it really say 'oil'?
thanks, it was 5,000 on the gen II, but they changed it to 10,000 on the gen III with synthetic oil and left the reminder at 5,000 for the other things. apparently, they were too lazy to reprogram the message.the method is in the o/m. it's fairly complicated, so i can't remember. it's like 'put on your seat belt, open the drivers door, turn the headlights on and off three times, hold the odometer button, turn your head and cough.
So 10K for an oil change..I guess that's the normal now because My 2011 5 series is every 15K which I find bizarre but ok. So how do i get rid of this message?
Saying this off memory,,,,,, get in car and hold down little button on dash on right side of steering wheel marked kph/mph at the same time as pushing and holding in ''start'' button. I think this works the same with either foot on brake or not and you will see a little line starting across from left to right as it resets. It does not take but a few seconds to reset. If I left something out--- someone will be along with proper instructions.
The display needs to be on "Trip A" before doing the KPH/MPH and Start button push. Again, it's in the owner's manual.
Yeah,, I forgot about ''trip A'', then proceed as I said. Hold in the kph/mph button and push and hold ''start'' until reset
Duh,,, there is a sticky at the top of this thread on procedure---- where I got my original info.....
I knew it was SOMEWHERE,, old and basically computer illiterate and I never had much success at ''searching''--- I jus aggravate people and ask in a thread........
The instructions in the manual a bit ambiguous, but I interpret them to mean it's the "MPH or km/h button" you're supposed to continue holding down until reset is complete, not the "POWER" button.
Here's what the manual says in Chapter 4: After the required maintenance is performed according to the maintenance schedule, please reset the maintenance data. To reset the data, follow the procedures described below: 1. Turn the “POWER” switch off with the trip meter A shown. 2. Turn the “POWER” switch to ON mode with the MPH or km/h button held down. 3. Keep pressing the button until the trip meter indicates “000000” and the multi-information display indicates that the reset is complete. IIRC, the last time I did this, I only pressed the Power button long enough for the display to turn on. I pressed the MPH button until it said the reset was complete. Note that it differentiates between the Power switch and the MPH button. Note that it also states "the MPH or km/h button".
