I have the fuel gauge that blinks all of the sectors. This may be or not a major problem at the moment. The fuel tank is full.

Why not just upload the file to this forum? Use the "Upload a File" button when writing a reply on this string.

The MAINT REQD odometer timer does not reset just because 12V battery power is removed.

Let's not forget these are highly advanced automobiles which require special equipment and procedures to diagnose and repair.

With that said, disconnect the battery and clean the air flow meter and throttle body. Reconnect the battery and see if it starts. If not, with a charged HV battery, disconnect the AUX battery for a minute, reconnect it, turn the car on (ready mode), run to the back and grab a hand full of exhaust, smell the sample. If you smell gasoline, you likely have fuel pressure and have an ignition problem. Next step, report back.

By the way, this is the relay you're looking for:

Disconnecting the battery will erase most codes. It will not erase ABS codes.

So now how to erase the ABS codes can my reader do that ? Or do I short out the pins on the plug OBD2 I should say I'm trying to get a fresh start now that I bought the Grid charger and never have had a charged battery before. So I read the codes which I uploaded and need a little assistance from here.

And by the way guys Thanks a ton I'm going to buy another Prius as soon as this one runs.

Your reader should be able to erase codes.

My suggestion is that you buy a Prius that actually can become READY and can be driven. Forget about buying a Prius where the car cannot be driven and you have no idea what the underlying problems are.

I cannot open the file that you uploaded but if you provided all of the DTC in your prior messages above, then it doesn't seem like there is a great need to open it.

DTC U0100 is a big problem. This means the traction battery ECU cannot communicate with the engine ECU. If the major ECUs within the vehicle cannot communicate, the car is not going to start no matter what you do to the traction battery, the circuit opening relay, or any other point solution you attempt.

B1271 is also a problem. The combination meter ECU is not communicating with the gateway ECU. This could be why the fuel gauge is blinking - it is showing that it has no idea what the actual fuel level is.

I am wondering why your DTC do not include P0A80 or one of the codes (P301x to P302x) that point to a specific failed battery module pair. Maybe the communications are so screwed up that the traction battery DTC cannot be read by your code reader. Or maybe the battery isn't a problem other than the state of charge is getting low.

You have to figure out why the communication links between the various ECUs are not working, and that is not minor.

Have you subscribed to techinfo.toyota.com yet? You are definitely going to need the repair manual and wiring harness diagrams to have a clue about how to fix the communications.

Was this car in a flood or a major accident that damaged the wiring harness?

What exactly is the code reader you are using? It appears you are not using Mini VCI? You are going to need Mini VCI to perform some of the troubleshooting for the controller area network which manages communications between the various ECUs.

I believe the circuit opening relay is actually part of the assembly to the left of Avi's finger in the photo he provided. His finger is pointing to the relay assembly that contains four fuses. The circuit opening relay is part of the relay assembly that does not house fuses.

Knowing where the circuit opening relay is, doesn't do you much good unless you can figure out how to deal with the four relays that are removed when that assembly is pulled out. And as I earlier pointed out, if you don't restore communications between the ECUs then it is useless to be working at the level of trying to bypass the relay.

It was hit in the rear, broke the plastic bumper and damaged the tail pipe. Hasn't run since. But will move on HV battery. When I got the car there was a jerry rigged relay added to the relay in question. But I don't think it was necessary.

OK cool I don't know how to do that but I'll look up some instructions for the software.

Well, the physical damage doesn't sound so bad from your description. However, if the engine will not start, then the damage may have been more severe than your description indicates.

Was the rear impact sufficient to damage the spare tire and the spare tire well?
What damage was caused to the fuel tank and fuel pump?

Also, if post-accident, the car was left exposed to the elements - for example, rain was allowed to get into the car - or rodents were allowed to chew up the wires in the instrument panel area - that will be a big problem to fix. That might explain the communications problem that currently exists.

Well, that is another bad sign. Who knows what other "modifications" were made to the wiring harness.

I hope you really enjoy working on that car as a hobby. I predict it is going to become a bottomless pit with regards to time and money expended.

Did you check the CAN line? Damage to anywhere in the can line could cause DTC U0100. I think you should start with that. I would guess that the person working on it didn’t have much experience with Prius so they just wanted to get the fuel pump running (just as you did).

Damn cold water or what LOL Ya I could buy a Tesla and drive it but what fun would that be, I thought all of us could enjoy this ride (wink).
I'm have a ton of fun and really enjoying all of your company. This is a GREAT forum and full of helpful folks. I have been going to get into electric cars since the EV1 and always enjoyed Toyota. I have very little money so a older used car is perfect and the knowledge is priceless.

It is still charging till 5 PM today then I will start to check all the functions out. Damage from the accident was minor BUT did something, as it hasn't had the ICE start since.
    Today will tell (I hope)
