Hoping this is right sub category, if not please move to correct one. My 2011 Prius has delayed headlight turn off, which is nice once in a very great while. I have looked through the manuals but have not found any method to remove the delay so headlights just go on and off with ignition, like my 2006 used to do. There is nothing on the headlight/turn signal arm to adjust, so assume delay is "hard wired" into the Prius software. Of course I can turn headlight switch on off every time, but wondered if there is a delay kill.
The default turn off time after the engine is shut down is 60 seconds, but can be set to 0, 30, or 90 seconds. Unfortunately, this can only be done using the Techstream software at your local Toyota dealer.
Thank you RRxing. Thats what I was afraid the answer was. Couldn't be something simple of step on brake, honk horn three times and turn headlights on/off twice. NOOOOOO!!! Your name RRxing, are you into railroading, big or models? Or is RRxing stand for something else? My hobby is model trains and watching the real ones at RRxing (crossings)
In the 2012, the times are adjustable using the nav system (if you have a IV as indicated). My book says 0,60 or 90 seconds. It may have changed from 2011 to 2012.
There are 2 way to do it...manually turn off by hand, press your remote "lock" button 2 times it will turn off the headlight right away, this applied to all Toyota vehicle(s). I don't drive with the headlight on during daytime, I installed the LED DRL and it will turn on/off after the car shut down, anyway hope this answer your question.
Very well put. There's a lot of products like that, with "features" that well..: what were they thinking? Leaving your headlights blazing, after the car is shut down is very old school. Couple that with the golf cart 12 volt battery. We've got the auto headlights, never use them, that delay was the deal breaker for me: can't abide walking away from a car with headlights blazing.
