i doubt it's legal to leave a child alone in the car here, not sure about pets. i don't think it's even legal to leave your keys in the car. if you had keys.

I think leaving your kids alone is also related to overheating (the kids, not the car). And this has nothing to do with the car idling or the keys in the car.

The law wasn't written for advanced vehicles like the Prius. Maybe it was written anticipating those spontaneous shifts into drive or reverse on GM vehicles? :)

The only law I have heard of in California pertains to vehicles with a gross weight exceeding 10,000 lbs. This is apparently a CARB rule designed to limit pollution caused by idling diesels. Trucks are limited to 5 minutes idling unless it is needed to facilitate loading or unloading using a lift gate, etc. Some truck stops have plug in power supplies similar to RV parks so that the drivers can keep the cab comfortable for sleeping, etc.
Can anyone cite the applicable section in the Ca Vehicle Code?

Well, it's been three years and seventeen days that my heads up display told me my key fob battery is low. Checked batteries in both fob's and, yup, 2.7 volts. Replaced the batteries with fresh 3.3 volt batteries. Not a bad run for longevity for my key fobs.

I believe I had to go buy a CR1632 for it. Most cars use a CR2032. Fun fact: the 1632 is the same thickness as the 2032 but a smaller diameter. The 2016, on the other hand is half as thick as the 2032 but same diameter. ;)
