How are we even supposed to believe anything you have to say? You who are logged in using the name Kenny G. I'm a huge Kenny G fan and am personally offended. :);)

Ok. I've talked it over with Danny and here's the new Priuschat rule regarding account names.

Everyone is required to change their account name to be their Social Security Number. For verification, each person must also list their bank routing number and account number. The staff will keep each person's bank account PIN number in the event that verification of identity is required.

Members not from the U.S. will be required to apply for citizenship and acquire a SSN and then open an American bank account.

In the event that SSNs are recycled or other conflicts, the first person will keep their account number - to indicate they were the original - and the second person will have their account name changed to "Joe".

(Just in case anyone is a little slow on the uptake, I am obliged to be clear that this is a joke. Please don't list your SSN)

LOL, i was kidding. when a prius owner from Portugal reported his battery failed at a young age, he was asked to provide all the pictures with a newspaper in Portuguese. he actually obliged.

the best way to verify the identity is to make a withdraw of a random amount (say $492.87) and than ask the prospective member for the exact amount that showed in the bank statement. after that, the priuschat staff can keep that amount as a deposit. in case the member is not behaving correctly (ie voicing anti-Hillary remarks or similar), membership is terminated and the deposit is non-refundable.

The point IS: Do you think the proliferation of that kind of thing makes the forum better or worse ?
I think it is just a juvenile unnecessary distraction.

And once it gets out of hand, it would be almost impossible to stop.
NOW it would be fairly easy.

It's already been explained a thousand times by everyone.
Under most parameters, it's harmless, even relatively common in most forums.

The juvenile unnecessary distraction is the 47+ response thread obsessing about what is bothering absolutely nobody else.

Yes I got that a while back but it might not be a totally warranted conclusion.

And it is an opinion on your part.......because "absolutely everybody else" has not voted yet.
Or are you claiming clairvoyant abilities ?? :)

And it has not been said anywhere near a thousand times.
A few posts have even come close to agreeing with me.

But quite enough has been said and it seems that I am in a tiny minority so I quit......and consider the thread closed......IF everyone else can resist the temptation to take yet one more nasty shot at me for daring to even bring it up in the first place.

Yes, I'm Clairvoyant, and it's my opinion the vast majority of those that haven't responded, haven't responded because they were smarter than me, and found the whole topic so ridiculous as to not find it worthy of response.

Your opinion, bordering closely on a personal insult........and I don't appreciate it.

This IS the LAST response I make to this thread.

Be as insulted as you wish.

But it is really hard to tell them apart from the ones who get their panties all in a bunch whenever anybody disagrees with them.

How about you just give it a rest.

Of these two replies, one which you find insulting and the other which you made, only the one you made uses the second person to directly address the individual. This, opposed to TEM's post, is what makes your post the personally insulting one.

As for your other point, allow me to point out that there appears to be only one person in this thread with their "panties all in a bunch" because, it would appear, every other person contributing to this thread "disagrees with them."

    Ah, the opportunities:
    • "Rick Wagner" - I am sorry to be such a sh*t having canceled the EV1. Lutz made me do it.
    • "Bob Lutz" - I am sorry to be such a sh*t having canceled the EV1. Wagner made me do it.
    • "Bill Gates" - I am sorry to have made such a wretched copy of the Macintosh. Basic made me do it.

Using an assumed name, even on an online forum, can be a criminal offence called "impersonation". However, for it to be an offence the person has to actually be impersonating someone. Just posting under a name is not a problem. Posting under a name and pretending to actually be them, is a problem.

So in this case nothing was done wrong especially since the person admitted right away he was not the famous person you thought.

Here is a more longwinded explanation from the web:

I get more upset when I can't use my first choice for a screen name. I know there are already people with the same name as mine in the US.
