OK big news. I gather that's a bit higher that some hoped but it can come down.

    That is excellent!
Improvements on the original while slightly lowering the price at the same time.

That's good news, can't wait to see what Toyota counters with and at what price point.

BTW, I'm in the market to replace my 2004 Prius with 283K miles, 56mile commute 5 times a week.

toyota will not be countering the volt. either one or the other will work for you. or neither.

My understanding is that Toyota may give to battery choices, e.g., add a lithium choice which should improve EV only range yes, and rumor has it more weight reductions too or have those been debunked?

pip is already lithium. weight reduction wouldn't surprise me though. but they are not competing with volt, even though some here se it that way because they weigh one against the other. toyota and gm have very different ideas as to what the future holds. the one thing we know about the next gen pip is, we don't know anything.:p

Right on! Its hard not to think of "competition" from the consumer side, looking for a new car, but I totally agree with you, two different ideas about the future.

....one question I have not seen answer is the Volt2 availability date in CA....I am curious if it will get out there in time to snap up the few remaining green HOV stickers.

absolutely, remember back in the early 2000's when you could get your name on a list for a Prius, I'm hoping I can do something for early delivery! I did note on the marketing email that it said actual design may vary from pre-production, which is normal, but by how much!?
