I have a 2012 Prius four, and I want to order center caps for the stock wheels. Are they 55mm or 57mm?
I see you have Michelin Defender's on the wheels. I just put on a set. What are you're thoughts on them? Have you run them through winter? Ryan
I have only had the car for a week. I picked this car over another because of the color and the tires. I really like Michelin tires. So far the tires are very smooth and quiet. As far as the wheels go, I cleaned the crap out of them with some Brillo pads to scuff them up. Then I taped off the tires and cleaned the wheels with pre-paint. I put a couple coats of light gray primer, then a few coats of Duplicolor silver Wheel Enamel, followed by a few coats of Rustoleum Crystal Clear enamel(way cheaper than the Duplicolor clear and available at Walmart for $3.87 a can). I'll install the caps tomorrow.
FYI, 55mm is the inner diameter of the centerbore on the back of the wheel to fit the hub. On the centerbore on the front, you can see that it expands out a little bit where the lip is. So the center cap will have to be slightly larger than 55mm to fit.
Looks very nice. It's a head-shaker for me, why Toyota switched to black rims. That and charging a small fortune for bit of chromed plastic centre cap. I would think their intent is to further discourage people from pulling the plastic wheel covers off, on their "flagship" vehicle. Seems like they're at loggerheads with their customers, not the brightest tactic. (If you get the centre cap from a dealership parts department, I don't think you need to tell them the diameter, they can verify.
I painted the knock out plugs blue to add a little pop to the silver wheels. There's touches of blue all over the car so I thought it would work. Me likey.
