This is my Prius, I have decided id like to keep it FOREVER. It is my first car, and I guess I have grown attached to it no matter how much id like a speedy sporty car again. I wouldn't mind making this car into brand new condition, painting it, and doing some small modifications on the inside. Although I don't know if it would be worth all the money.

Glad you bought it, Prius cars are great, highly reliable. Depending how much you bought it for, and your budget, you could start slowly on the work. How many miles?
I would start with basic tune up, and mechanical , then approach the rest.
    Good luck !

If it is running well now, I would start with cleaning up after the pig that last had it. Then maybe put some money into getting a really nice set of replacement seat covers if they do not clean up. Then set some money aside and chip away a your list of tune-up and ATX fluid change, etc. Exterior looks good! I would have a hard time driving around someone's dirty stink.

Sounds like a plan, someone suggested I get my whole upholstery cleaned , it's like yours, then in my case put seat covers on. Dirt is attracted to that fabric.
    How may miles?
    Off to work here.

I would first change out the center console cover.....just buy a piece of fabric and use some spray adhesive and glue it on. Your car will look 100x better. Then get a good fabric cleaner and attack the seats.

It is in a way it's high mileage, but I bet it will serve you well.
From what I read in past theads on here, most of the gen 2's do above average.
You may have noticed the 200 k and 300 k plus post on here.
Some of the folks on here will say go for it, just when the major expenses happen, then you may have to decide. Biggest to encounter would be the hybrid battery pack.
Then there are certian members on here that will really try to make you wish you had never bought the car.
I call them active trolls, heheheh
Stay away from dealer as much as possible..
It's all good with your car.
    Think Positive my friend.

Any recommendations on seat covers? Or perhaps I could just buy brand new seats if the stains don't come out?

Also, what is basic tune up and mechanical things I should do to this car to keep it running long and hard? I've been using the Full Synthetic oil when I change the oil

There are some nice full set coverings on ebay. Even some OEM covers, but I think they recommend a professional to install. I however would try it myself. Even some cheap ones will make that car look new again.

I would start with changing all spark plugs
I used the Toyota SK16R11 Iridium plugs
    Change Cabin filter behind glovebox
Change main engine intake air filter.
Change coolant for gas engine and inverter or transaxle
    Change transaxle fluid.
Change PCV valve( hard to get to.
Keep air pressure in tires checked. I like 42 in front and 40 in rear for best gas mileage.
    Check all hoses
Change main drive belt for gas engine.

If you have records and some things have been done, disregard some of this.
    May be other things....

Daafin3, she's just getting broken in. Although I understand and can share your sentiment a more prudent approach would be to decide how far to go, then go no further. Old cars become money pits and it is very easy to invest more than you'll ever recover.

Eeeew, I'd get to work on trying to clean that upholstery. Wet Okole seat covers look really good but anything would be an improvement. If you can't get the car clean enough for your satisfaction take it to a detail shop.

I wouldn't paint the car. A good job won't be cheap and a cheap job won't be good.

buy a scrap of garment leather big enough to cover that console lid (upholstery leather is really too thick and its difficult to install). there's 6 Phillips screws holding it together. use 3m spray adhesive and super glue and a bunch of clothes pins and it'll look better than new. get the rest of the interior cleaned by a detail shop.

lose the other 3 hubcaps and wash the exterior.

then do all the maintenance items listed by fishcrab and clean out your hv battery fan.

your car is good for another 100k.

69shovelhed, like your post, thinking your right, the quick fix for upholstery is good, bet there are even some good seat covers that work, if needed. On a long trip my boney elbow hurts on that console led, plus doesn't feel good on the skin. I have put a towel on it to soften it up . I still need to check out my HV battery fan, will be my next project. Thanks for the tips.

Consider a salvage yard. Though we hate to think about the demise of Prii, a totaled car can serve as an organ donor to make your car look new again.

69shovlhed, could you direct me to a video of how to clean a HV battery fan on a gen 2.
Found one on utube without sound, not a lot of help.

I have to agree. Check the boneyard. You may find it less expensive, and easier, to replace the seats and carpet with excellent condition used parts.
