You just HAD to say that, didn't you ??

I think the advocates of that are using "junk science" but it's been debated to DEATH in this and many other forums so there is no need to do it yet again.

Put the new tires where you think they should go and don't worry about it.
If you don't drive too fast for conditions, it won't be a problem either way.

    I absolutely agree with you.
As well as being able to recover from a loss of rear traction a LOT better than loss of the front.
BUT.......this "myth" is so firmly entrenched in the tire industry that you and I will never make a dent in it.

Well it has probably been around since when all cars were rear wheel drive. On FWD with 2/3 weight riding on front? No

Swapping to snow tires, there's no reason not to rotate. I do notice the fronts are invariably less tread than the rear, whenever I'm pulling them off. A 32th at most. But that's in a single, low mileage season.

If you're using a single set of tires through 4 seasons, I think you could skip the 5000 mile tire rotations, just rotate them every 10000 miles, and it would work out about the same.

You'd still need to go in at 5000 mile interval though: they've gotta check the drivers floor mat you know.

the only way to debunk a myth is with facts.
