The fix is easy. Just borrow a small beater from a friend for trips to the dealer, and get 'inventive' with the parking.
It's a corollary to the 'the car that is worth less has right of way in traffic' rule.

Whoops, I was thinking of too many other conversations and meant to say PiP, not Leaf.

I never claimed to do "Phil's mod" for $20, I said his mod was too expensive and I have converted a Leaf EVSE to L2 for $20. The ability to reduce charging current isn't a valuable feature for me, and I doubt many others want to mess with it either. No idea what red flag means in context to my post.

I heard that when you buy a BMW, there's a manual in the glove box titled "You And The Road You Now Own".

I'm assuming the cable wasn't long enough to plug in if you'd parked behind the Beemer and blocked him in...... I'm getting so crotchety in my old age...... I would do it!

That guy should buy one of these.

Then he'd actually have a reason to park there.

Personally, I would have just spoken to the dealership and asked him to move the car. If they get annoyed enough that you feel the need to go elsewhere, then so be it. It's their loss. (That's assuming there's more than one Toyota dealership near you.)

Yesterday I posted about a charger being "ICEd" by a Tesla! The charger is located at a Whole Foods store and is posted as to be used while shopping there. There is one charger with two spaces reserved. I waited 15-20 minutes for the driver to finish shopping and come out so I could plug in. I then looked at the readout and the car had been plugged in for 2 hours. It seemed obvious that they were at the movie theater across the parking lot and not Whole Foods.

This morning I thought that maybe I should have pulled the plug and started charging and leave the guy a note that I gave the Tesla plug adapter to the manager at Whole Foods.

As a PHEV driver, I don't think I would ever pull the plug on another actively charging car

In the past, I have pulled the plug on cars that were finished charging after giving the owners a grace period of at least 30 minutes to do it themselves. And, I only did this at charging locations that were completely free (free parking & free charging) so there was no sense in which the other driver might claim to be paying for that plug.

And then I would also leave a note politely explaining why I unplugged them and expressing my wish that they were retroactively okay with that, given the circumstances.

Messing with someone else's car, as in unplugging their car, should not be taken lightly because some folks get easily upset.

This reminds me of my university days and completed clothes dryer cycle etiquette. Some people would get upset if you removed their clothes even after a finished cycle, but my solution of removing them and folding them left everyone happy. ;)

I wonder if there is anything analogous for EV charger removal etiquette. o_O

A polite note is about the only thing you can do for that.

If you have an engine, then it doesn't matter. Tesla wins. Could have been chilling inside the Whole Foods waiting for enough charge to make it to the next SuperCharger.

If I pull up to a free charger and there is a Volt there (PiPs aren't sold here, but same concept) it will be unplugged to give the Leaf juice if required. I seriously want to destroy the Volts that park at the airport. There are 11 spots total, 6 in 1 garage and 5 in the other. Almost all the time they are occupied by Volt drivers. In a few hours they will be fully topped off. The point of EV parking at an airport is for EVs! Unless you are supercommuting. When we took off this Friday there were 4 Volt's plugged in and NOT charging, 1 actively charging Tesla and 3 Tesla's parked in the "hybrid only" spots next to the "EV only" spots that obviously got ICEd by Volts. The 1 time I drove the Leaf, (86 miles of highway, > 100% range) the Volt driver that pulled in literally less than a minute before refused to move 1 parking space over (from EV to hybrid) so I could charge my fully EV.

Having only 240v charging at long-term airport parking areas is silly. A better solution is lots of cheap 120v plugs but the charging station manufacturers didn't have products for that niche of the market for the first several years so airports just bought what was available.

From GM-Volt, seems the door swings both ways.

"There's a couple guys at my office park who abuse the system. A Leaf is the worst... he'll sit there from 8am - 6 pm several times a week, and he's always fully charged before noon. I think it's incredibly rude. Especially when the office park provided a written sheet of rules when you sign up for access, and it specifically says to move once you are full and not block the station all day. Grrr. I have gotten security to call them and get them to move a few times, but they keep doing it.

I practice good car-ma (move within 30-60 minutes of completion at most). I have a very low opinion of those who don't."

    And another.

"At work, we have 2 charging spots and 5 EVs (2 Volts and 2 Leafs and 1 Focus Electric). Our rule is simple ... if you charge in the morning, move your car out at lunch time (even if you did not get a full charge). The facility policy is that these are charging spots and not parking spots. Once you are done charging, you are expected to move. There is no signup process but there is a notice clearly posted at these charging spots stating that these are for plugin cars only, and that they are meant to be used only while charging. We also have a email list that we use for communications, which allows for some additional flexibility with scheduling. The Leaf owners need to be reminded constantly to move their cars but otherwise, this system has worked for us for the most part."

Volts still have an engine, so no sympathy there. If the Leaf isn't fully charged, it shouldn't have to move. If it is charged, it should move no matter who it is. The FFE, like the Leaf, gets priority charging. i3 over i3-REX.

I have never understood this. it is quite plain:

If a car (whatever make or flavour) is there before you and is actively charging, you wait in the queue to charge.

You NEVER unplug an actively charging car.

Where does a particular type of vehicle get the right to queue jump?

You unplug a car that doesn't need it when someone else does. If the car is not charging, that is easy. If it is actively charging and has a petrol backup, also easy. If it is a pure EV generally you leave it alone until done. However it is rather common for the areas that have 1 L3 DCQC CHAdeMO charger and 2+ L2 EVSEs for people to unplug the car in the L3 when it reaches 92% or so because the charge rate is now L2 speeds. So you unplug the L3, and plug them into an L2. Plug yourself into the L3. Only time this doesn't work is if the OBC doesn't work which I have never heard of...

If you unplugged my PiP while it was still charging, that would piss me right off. I don't care if you have a Tesla or a Leaf, I was there first.

And I would tell you that too, if I saw you do it. It's not my fault that you bought a Leaf or whatever and can't plan your trips appropriately. Maybe if you saw me and asked me nicely, I'd unplug it myself, but for you to unplug my car without even asking, while it is still charging? Not cool.
