there has been talk that even the 'new' ones from toyota are remanufactured. but i think that would be illegal to call them new. might take some investigation. the only problem i see with 'jack' is, how do you go about due diligence?

keep in mind, there are rebuilt battery packs, and rebuilt battery packs. there is a correct way, and many, many incorrect ways that will work for awhile.

Thanks. Dealer cost of battery alone is 2600 before labor. Will not do that for sure. This company has some great testimonies. Felt like I was talking to a friend over a cup of coffee.

I suspect Toyota has plenty of 'new' batteries in the sense of never used before, but stock piled since they quit making that model. Prius batteries have lasted much longer than most folks thought they would. My question would be which battery is 'better' one that has sat on a shelf or one that has been fairly continuously recharged by being driven.

Well, not entirely...considering lots of options....just trying to do my own due diligence thanks

I'll tell you..everyone has an opinion on this new versus reman battery. Talked to a guy at Advance auto this morning...said he thinks there is a difference...and is looking into the price for me...he thinks he got one a while back for 1399 new...so we'll see..thanks

So the critical question here is, or should be, exactly HOW were the reman's done ?
If they just used the harness and shell and put in all new cells that's one thing.

If they tried to test the individual cells and just replace the ones that are bad........that's an ENTIRELY different thing.......and you end up with part of the battery cells still being XX years old with XX, XXX miles of use on them. NOT something that I would want to do, unless maybe you are about to get rid of the car.

no one can get a new battery from toyota except dealerships.i don't think i have read of one instance where someone had a dealership replace the battery, and the came back here at some point to report a problem. have you considered the grid charger?

Sounds about right. I paid around $1,300 for a "new" battery from NAPA, so he's probably charging a few hundred bucks for installation. If you do any car work at all, you can change the battery yourself by watching YouTube videos. If not, then you pay someone like Jack.

Did you install yours? a few have said that you can do it BUT I've called some garages and they will not mess with it due to the static electricity involved and how careful one needs to be without getting electrocuted...so I think that Id rather have a pro do it...thanks for your thought though....

Also I understand that if you call toyota headquarters and push them a little bit they will tell a person that they are not new but reman....something is changed or reconditioned to let them say its new...least that's another thought I have received in my search..

Just talked to a couple of people who had their battery replaced by Prius Hybrid Repair out of DC. Very happy with the result...said Jack was very knowledgeable, thorough, and very professional..and he comes to where you are within 300 miles...very unusual these days!

Yeah, I did it myself and it was pretty easy. About two hours total time spent, and not as dangerous as you would think.

Well, Jack came down from DC..HybridPriusRepair if you want his website. Arrived exactly on time..less than 2 hours later ...we were done, very professional, knowledgeable, and fun to talk to...Up and running..he was very systematic in the process. Taught me a little more about the car..such as Oil change regular every 5 thousand miles, does not need the synthetic, how to jump correctly so no harm comes to the car, and what to look for...plus a scanner to keep and use. This has already come in handy. Car now is getting 6 to 8 miles per gallon better, its quick again (for a prius) and am very happy! Highly recommend!
