I have a new PiP. I have a hitch mounted bike rack. I have a steep driveway. If I go slowly, I can get onto and up the driveway without grinding the hitch. But if I attach the bike rack, it is unable to clear the driveway no matter how slowly I go. I am looking for a solution. I have air bags on my Tundra for hauling a fifth wheel. They lift the frame. I thought that might work on the Prius to lift the frame enough to allow the bike rack to clear the street/driveway. Has anyone ever installed air lifts on a PiP, or any comparable Prius frame? Thanks.
I'm fairly certain that the spring perch area is the same on the PiP as the regular hatchback. You may want to confirm with Toyota or possibly the manufacture of the kit below. 2010-2014 Toyota Prius - Firestone Coil-Rite Air Bag Helper Springs (NO-DRILL) [REAR] [4136] | $94.19 | SD Truck Springs | Leaf Springs, Helper Springs and Suspension Parts
Are you going up a steep slope, then over a crest, and the crest causes the problem? Get a concrete contractor in, to smooth out that transition? Up the hill from us you see a lot of steep driveways with crests, they often have battle scars.
No crest. Just a sharp, uphill transition from the street. Checked with city planners and concrete guy. Raising the frame, if possible, is both simpler and cheaper.
