Got me a Leaf

    The CT was depreciating (fast). 55k+ miles in 2.5 years didn't help. The C depreciates less and has 20k miles with my wife's milder commute. This was planned 2.5 years ago when we got the cars.

    It was a no-brainer... 2015 Leaf S with all the incentives, plus free Level 2 charger, "No Charge to Charge" card, and 0 down / 0% financing for 72 months. With the sale of the CT (great car, but it was time) and all the incentives, I'm actually getting a new car plus additional money back to me.

    The wife got the new Leaf, while I get to put some miles on the C. So far so good, the 110v charger seems to be keeping up just fine with the wife's commute, but getting the electrical work done to put in the Level 2 charger lays the groundwork for a longer range EV in the next few years (for me).

    Great. She'll love the Leaf. But keep in mind the NC2C card is essentially worthless. Do NOT count on it to work anywhere. General story involves 20 minutes on the phone talking to 3 different companies all of which have no idea what you are talking about or saying it is the other company's problem. And in the end, you will be charged.

    The L1 EVSE has worked great for me exclusively over the past year and a half. My plans for an L2 are a dedicated 100A line to the garage to be able to handle Tesla's dual chargers at 80A (80% continuous max load, so 100A required). Maybe the next gen will have 100A dual's so a 125A required, who knows.

    2k1, thanks for the heads up on the nc2c card.

    Too bad there's not a lot of activity here. I almost attempted to install a DEI 545t on the leaf, but as I was looking through the wiring diagrams for the combo switch, I realize that it would not be possible with the CAN system.

    The Leaf already has Auto headlights. You cannot leave them in ON like Toyota's, but you can leave them in Auto.

    My 2015 S does not have auto headlights. The combo switch only has 3 positions: Off, P, and On

    Yup. Didn't realize anyone actually bought the S. The S on my dealer's lot has sat there forever, only the SV and SL's have been selling within days of landing on the lot. When I bought mine it was still wrapped in the plastic from the factory and hadn't even had the torque numbers programmed.

    It has been a blast to drive. If you haven't already, check out mynissanleaf.com. Lots of good info over there.

    Since this was a purchase and not a lease, if something goes south on us, I won't get hosed as much. Besides, given that we never use built in GPS, Carwings ends at the end of 2016 (for everyone), and I got the S with the charge package, we felt like we got the basics covered.

    This is our first EV, just like the Prius C One was our first hybrid back in 2012. No extras for us on the C either.

    If everything works out, I'll be getting a long range EV (~200mi range) about 6 months to 1 year after they come out to replace the C.

    About $19.8k after the $3.5k from Nissan, $7.5k fed tax cred, & $2.5k from the state. Haven't included the free L2 charger and nc2c card of questionable worth.

    We recently got a Leaf as well.
    I have really enjoyed the efficiency of it although next winter will be tough if we haven't moved by then.

    I do love my little Leafy! Over 10K miles of gas free mostly solar powered driving. Including an over 300mile trip for dinner.

    I got a 2012 leaf to go along with my 2012 pip. It has been great so far. I have to call Nissan to get car wings and get my ownership established with them.
    Toyota had me send copies to prove I was the owner and after 6 months took my engine ev apps away. Saying i wasn't the owner even i have tags and a memorandum title in my name. I hope after the holiday Nissan won't be as bad to transfer it from car max to me.

    I like the smooth take off of the leaf. It has a really nice cloth fabric on the seats. And more headroom than the pip. I have a 2012 leaf and have to get used to how fast my range goes down. I was aware that you dont get a mile and est range that are equal.
    I didnt get a 240 volt outlet installed last year when i got my pip. I realize how much more convenient it will be with the leaf. I have a condo with no garage so i cant charge overnight. I will charge after work before bed so i can monitor my charge cables. And i will uses my pip for long trips since we dont have a lot of chademo's out side of columbus ohio.
    I am happy that they are adding more around the city incase you need it. I know nissan doesn't recomend charging with chademo more than once a week for battery life. It seams on you tube the people in other countrys dont wory about how much they use them. I love it so far. I have the best of both worlds with a leaf and pip.

    '13 SV w/o quick charge (CHAdEMO inlet for DC fast charging) package doesn't have auto either.

    Ok... so, I can count myself as having 2 Leafs, temporarily. My '13 SV w/premium & QC + LED packages w/~23K miles is hitting end of lease at end of July. Residual is an insane ~$20601. No thanks.

    Nissan's offering $6500 off that, which is STILL not competitive w/used ones w/the same trim and similar condition. After discount and $300 purchase fee, I'd have to pay ~$14,401 + tax and license. Used car dealer says he '13 SVs w/both packages (like mine that's ending lease) he'd be selling for ~$11K to $11.5K, or so. (So, I'm guessing my lease turn in Leaf will fetch $10 to $10.5K at auction.)

    I could extend the lease by another year w/an offer of 12 months for the price of 10. I'd have to pay $3140 and buy new tires for a car I won't have anymore, since the tires will not last another 12K miles. And, after all that, no more car, unless I buy it at remaining residual minus any more discounts, if any.

    I picked up a '13 SV w/premium package w/almost 24K miles only that was a lease turn in. In service date was towards the end of 6/2013. Used car dealer bought at a Manheim auction.     I only watched the first 15 minutes.

    So I go to the dealer for the free battery check and they up-sold me to a 7500 service even though the leaf only has 3600 miles. I wanted them to reprogram the door unlock so that all the doors unlock when I put the car in park instead of "off". So I figured $58 for the 7500 mi service seemed fair since they will include it in the service.

    They said no problem.

    Then after waiting 2 hours for them to top off the washer fluid, they had some mechanic explain to me that it's not possible on my car to reprogram it the way I want. I didn't argue. I just wanted to leave.

    Being a member of mynissanleaf I know it is possible and that they just can't / won't do it for me.

    So I go home and ordered a odbii connector from Amazon and download Leafspy pro so that I can do it myself.

    It took 3 minutes for me to connect to the car, thumb through the menu system and change the unlock to "park", as well as unlock all doors with one button press on the keyless entry, and doors locking when put in any gear.

    It's self validating to know that there's a reason I don't use dealership service centers.

    I'll never go back to this dealership for service.
