[quote="walter Lee, 4. The Prius will beep if you leave it (move away from it) without turning it off and the door lock switch won't lock if the Prius is still powered on. .[/quote] But you can physically lock it with the emergency key.
If you hear a loud annoying warning noise, and a warning message comes up on the dash saying “Shift to P Position", alternating with “Shift to P Position when Parked”, and the yellow triangle is flashing. The drivers door is ajar. What brilliant engineer thought of that? The surprising thing is I was so distracted by the flashing triangle light, and warning message I did not even notice that the door open icon was on.
I turned the car off and realized that I forgot to close the windows. I quickly hit the window buttons and the windows closed even though the car was off. There must be a grace period.
I just knew I was wrong! But I knew I would be corrected, Thanks! I just knew every time I would forget to roll up my windows. I would open my door and then go oh darn and try to roll up the windows, and they would not go up. Never thinking about it being a timed thing. Operating the power windows after turning the hybrid system off The power windows can be operated for approximately 45 seconds even after the “POWER” switch is turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off. They cannot, however, be operated once either front door is opened.
You weren't wrong, both are true. I roll up or crack the windows with the power off a lot, but there have been many times I wasn't thinking and opened the door first. Darn.
Another little known fact that you may not be aware of: If you power on the car (in ready mode) but forgot to get something from the trunk/hatch area. You get out and try to open the hatch, it won't open at all even with the fob. You'd have to put the car in gear then back in park in order to open the hatch. Obviously a safety feature so an intruder can't open the hatch as soon as you power on the car.
my 2010 prius and 2012 camry keep the lights on as long as the hatch or trunk or any doors are open after turning the engine off. I believe that is to stop the glare of the sun.
This is a great thread, but what's interesting is most of this stuff is in the manuals. Yeah.... I read the whole darn thing, more than 500 pages. Trouble is I've forgotten most of it.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out the Premium HDD navigation JBL green in my 2014 Prius 4 is also a DVD player. While parked u can watch a DVD put in in gear and it changes to voice only. I wonder if it could be directed to screens in the back and play going down the road.
Also i had a 2013 4runner. It had a button to deice the windshield wipers. I thought that was really cool. Wish my Prius did that
When Prius is locked, and u unlock it and don't open any doors, within abt 60 seconds, it locks itself back up. Safety feature in case the unlock button is accidentally pressed.
Needless inconvenience in case the unlock button was purposely pressed and you find other things to do before opening any doors.
Well, if you have something that's going to occupy your time for 60 seconds after telling the car to unlock, then it's probably better that the car locks itself up. I'm sure if you ran back into the store or something like that, you wouldn't want someone opening your doors and stealing whatever you have inside.
