it's never made sense to me. why is it so hard/expensive to provide more warning?

especially on that small of tank...not a fan of filling up when almost 20% of the tank is full, but that's just me

I saw the warning on my 2001 and 2004. Never ran down that low on my 2010 and PIP.

My last pip started blinking last night about a mile before I pulled into the gas station. I was able to put in right above 8.4 gallons in (said 10 miles to empty).

So there were 2.1 gallons still available on a a 10.5 gallon tank, exactly 20%.

This thread brings up a curiosity of mine that I was thinking of posting as a new thread. But I'll throw it out here:

How many of us PiP owners have ever gone to fill up and added 10.0 or more gallons? Let's call those folks who have added 10+ gallons members of the "10 Gallon Club". I have yet to achieve it. But I have been playing with getting there for the last several months. I follow my fill ups on fuelly.com. Since Feb 2015 I've had four fill ups that ranged from 9.5 to 9.84 gallons. Looking to cross into the 10s, just to know I can do it.

Here's how I walk the fine line of getting towards 10+ gallons consumed, but not running out of gas. Once my last fuel gauge pip starts to flash, I immediately zero my Trip B meter. I assume the flashing starts at 8 gallons consumed. I then use that new Trip B info to try to get 2 or more gallons worth of distance out of what remains in the tank.

Anyway, I am curious. If you're a member of the 10 Gallon Club, chime in! I'd be curious if it's a regular thing you do, or if it's a rare thing that happened because of circumstance.

As mentioned a quite a few posts above this one, I recently entered this club. It was purely by accident. Keep in mind, it didn't take very far past 10 gallons for me to "run out of gas."

I'm trying to run the car out of gas again, but my wife chickened out last week when she was responsible for taking people to the airport. She still had 130 actual miles of fuel remaining. It will be another couple weeks before I run it out again.

After that, I don't plan to regularly be in the 10 gallon club. The car will shut down the engine just 1/4 of a gallon past 10 gallons. That means you have about a 13 mile window of having exceeded 10 gallons consumption, and running out. If the battery is fully charged, you might have a 25 mile window.

I'll shoot for 9 gallon fills after I run the car out, which hopefully will be the last time.
