You may have noticed some down time tonight while I updated the forum software. There are more updates and style changes to come, but I wanted to open the site back up for business as soon as I could.

There have been some great improvements to the software. One of my favorites is the ability to highlight the text from the post you want to Quote and just click "Reply" to add it to your Quick Reply, or "+Quote" to add it to your mutli-quote reply. I'll try to post a gif or video showing how it works, but it's pretty self explanatory. Please feel free to test it by highlighting part of this post and click "Reply" when the little button pops up.

There are also some great improvements to the look to PriusChat. I've changed fonts and font sizes in an effort to make things more readable. There are a few other things that I'll point out soon.

You may see things missing for now while I get everything buttoned back up. I probably already know about it, but please post what you find anyway so that I can make sure it's on my list.

As always, if you come across bugs, please post them in this thread. I'll try to address them as quickly as possible.

Thanks, as always, for your continued support of PriusChat!

That big fat vertical column on the left of the main forum page is a pretty big waste of space.

    I like it!

In the past PriusChat had a lethargic response. But everything is much snappier. I don't have metrics but tonight's impression is much improved.

It looks like iPhone/Safari support is much improved too. However, the forum navigation could use higher contrast and slightly larger font. I'm OK with reading glasses but it is the only 'fine print' I could find.

As for 'buying you' all a beer,' I'm OK with that especially if we can buy one for other users we have grown to admire and respect. Heck, I'd do it just on principle. . . . appreciation for a job well done.

    Some minor technical questions:
    • HTTP/2 coming?
    • Net-Neutrality bonus?

I spend way too much time at Prius Chat...because I just tested this...and it seems really exciting.

My initial impression? Things seem better. I like it.

Most of the forums are missing the new posts option at the top of the page. This is my favorite way to check the site.

Yes, I have to fix those templates to include those links again. Thanks for reminding me to add it to the list.

If I'm understanding correctly, that means you just quote the bit you want? That sounds good.

I'm finding, especially when I'm viewing on a phone, the nested quotes quickly get ponderous. You end up having to scroll down endless blank screen fulls, and often the text, when you reach it, is single words per line, or worse.

When I'm doing a quote with previously nested quotes, I'll invariably edit out the nested stuff, but it's awkward, again doubly so when on a phone.

I like the ability to go from post to post rather than scrolling with the wheel mouse or sidebar.

There's a feature beside your name if you look at the top menu that says something like "2 out of 10" with up and down "arrows" (not really arrows). You can then just read post by post by clicking the "down" or "next" arrow rather than scroll.

That being said, Danny, after a few posts, that menu, your name and the messages and "new posts" flag icon disappear and somehow are floating below the main blue menu bar and appear when you mouse over a seemingly blank area of the screen.

    • server cached images gone (YEAA!!!) - in the past, the server cached images which meant if I posted one poorly edited, the update did not replace the flawed cached image. I see the generated HTML references my source URL so the initially 'fuzzy' graphs are now much sharper(*). IF PriusChat reverts to serving cached images, PLEASE let us know how to get an edited image to replace the cache.
    • "Quick Navigation Menu" - the default font 'color' is a little faint, perhaps make it a little darker without coming too close to the 'bold' of a selected item??
Still liking this version, a lot!

    * - I use excel to generate the dashboard summary charts but the initial versions are 1,300 pixels wide and nearly 250kB large. I use iPhoto to improve contrast and sharpness and preview to reduce the pixel density to 75/inch and 640 pixels wide. This reduces the files to ~90kB. But as a test (right, it wasn't an accident, nope, it was a 'test') I uploaded the 250kB files. Then fixed the files and I see the improved images are on the server.

The one thing I do not like is that on my computer, the user avatars / photos are too big and cover the leftmost characters in the first several lines of each post.

What screen resolution are you running? Or are you zoomed in from within your browser settings? Is your machine (computer) and monitor combination old? Only asking because even on my iPad and iPhone that doesn't happen.

I forgot to ask, any changes in the table generation code?
    • default is left justify - usable for text, makes numbers harder to deal with
    • "," column delimiter - prevents use of "10,000,000" for "10000000" as the "," allows faster reading
    Just a suggestion.
