Well, this is awesome. Saved me 250$ and an hour of time at local dealership. Took a couple of tries ( I think the difference was how fast I did the in and outs of the key in the slot, and waiting at the end on 9c pressing the lock on the new fob for about 3 seconds, rather than within 3 seconds). Kudos to all who got this info together.

Thanks usnavystgc for re-posting this. you're the man.

Dealer in Jackson TN quoted me $175 plus tax for the key fob (and was a little rude about it) and $150 plus tax for labor. So I saved 2 hours round trip drive, an hour in the dealership waiting and savings of $244.34.

Good instructions, but I keep messing up on the last part of the last step. 3rd time I did it right and it worked great. Total about 15 min. Thanks again!!!

    That would be usnavysgtc.
I have no idea how he figured it out.

Where did you buy the fob, and for how much ?

I have a black emblem fob and was able to use procedure B to program it to my car. I did have to press the lock/unlock buttons twice before pressing the lock button.
    Thanks for the help!

I bought a brand new genuine Toyota 2006 FOB with silver logo (with smart key functionality) for $117 (from Daytona Toyota via Amazon) and used procedure B to successfully program it. It worked perfectly without any glitches. Many thanks to all who figured this out and publicized it here!

My only comment is that it could be easier to follow the directions if the incidental statements were omitted and written separately as a reference for those who have trouble getting it to work. Here is my attempt at a more concise version:

(Concise) PROCEDURE B for chrome logo fobs & vehicles with Smart Key Functionality:

(Note: Your new un-programmed FOB is used only in step 9)

    1. With driver door both open and unlocked, and your old (working) FOB in hand,
quickly insert FOB into slot and remove it twice,
    2. close and open driver door twice,
    3. insert and remove FOB,
    4. close and open driver door twice,
    5. insert FOB in slot and close door,
    6. press car's power button 3 times to cycle thru the power modes,
    7. remove FOB from slot (doors should automatically lock & unlock),
    8. press and hold lock and unlock buttons at the same time (doors will again lock & unlock),
    9. on NEW FOB, press lock & unlock at the same time, then press just the lock button,
    10. wait a few seconds for doors to lock & unlock again which confirms success,
    11. open and close driver door to end programming.

I have a question, so once I program a new key using one existing key, would that make the lost key invalid? I am concerned that if the lost key was intentionally stolen can that key be used to turn the car on after preprogramming a new key?

All previously registered keys remain registered after adding a new key. Techstream has a function to "delete all keys except the current one". Step 4 (and/or 2) may be the selection function (2=ADD). Someone with Techstream and a fearless attitude may want to see what happens when using a different step 4 (1,3, 4 flaps of the door). I think I did something like this 8 years ago on my 2006 and ended up with the keys messed up. I had to visit a mechanic who had Techstream to get it fixed. He didn't have to get a seed, and I think what I did deleted one of my keys. YMMV.

Bought a new smart key off of eBay for $104 and all functions (including SKS) work perfectly thanks to this procedure. (Prius 2008)
    THANK YOU ALL :)

So, I now have a fob and no car. Anything I can do with an old fob?

Sell it on e-bay. The remote part can probably get re-programmed if used on compatible car.

Worked absolutely perfectly! Took me two tries, but only because I messed up. The steps are exactly right.

For those looking for cheap keys, check out Daytona Toyota on Amazon. I got my brand new Smart Key there for about $115 and saved myself at least $100 by using the chicken dance!

I was able to get part A (for operating the car) done in the first try, but cannot get Part B (remote lock/unlocking) to work after many attempts. I have changed out batteries in both fobs, the 2007 Prius goes into "add mode" every time, so it is just the 9a-9c sequence that is not working for me. Since it is a 2007 I am going with the idea that it takes two button pushes as outlined below.

"9b: Press both the Lock and Unlock key (simultaneously) on the NEW fob. Hold for about 1.5 seconds (two users have reported it being necessary to execute this step twice, if your first go around does not indicate success, try it again and execute this step twice. Please post what worked in the comments below)."

"9c: Within three seconds, press the lock key on the NEW fob. If successful the lock/unlock will cycle once indicating success (It may take a while for the lock/unlock cycle. I've seen it happen just as I was ready to say, "well, it didn't work". If you wait for a long time and get no cycle at all, complete step 10. and test to see if the SKS functions of your new fob work. If they do, pls report that on this thread)."

Is there anything I can try to see if I can get this to work. I will just keep trying, but any pointers are helpful. It seems there is no indication when 9b is complete, is that true?

    Thanks community.

    Henry

Idk Henry. Some things you can try are.
    1) in 9 b. try pressing the unlock button slightly ahead of the lock button when holding for 1.5 seconds. If that doesn't work, try pressing the lock button slightly ahead of the unlock button
    2) Have you tried completing step 10 and testing to see if the SKS functions work?

If none of this works, then you may have too many keys registered to the car. I doubt this is the case however.

Where did you buy your fob from? Is it a brand new fob from a dealer?

I bought it from eBay, brand new dealer Daytona FL. I will try your suggestions and report back. Thanks.

I just realized I have never done step 10? So I will try that first!!

(one of the things I think is not as clear as it could be is whether there is any kind of visual or audible confirmation on steps 9a-9d? It seems there is not, but if there is something that acknowledges that the step is a success it would be great to add that to the instruction.)

I tried all of the above, still no success? It was so easy to get part A to work. Any more thoughts? Some questions.

How critical is 1.5 seconds? How do you mange that aspect of it?
How long to hold the final "Within three seconds, press the lock key on the NEW fob" one second, longer?
Is this the add key logo? IMG_6030.jpg

    thanks

Have you tried this concise procedure?

If this is not working, the only thing I can think of is too many keys are registered. In that case, you will need to delete. There is a procedure for that on PC but, I'm not sure where. Try a Google search.

There are no indications for step 9b other than the lock/unlock cycle in step 10 above.

It is my understanding that that is the symbol for add mode.

I would recommend sticking with it. Most are able to get it to work quickly but some do have a harder time. Idk why. I am really not an expert on this, I've just been trying to help people get this right and avoid confusion. I am a process improvement expert and I've tried to utilize those techniques with this. Unfortunately, I don't have an in depth/complete understanding of all the ins and outs of the programming and hardware involved.
