just this morning drove to work normally but after sitting in the car for less than an hour with the radio on in acc mode the 12v battery was dying. hooked up my booster pack and then started the car. when it came on noticed the hsi screen was blank. hit ev mode and got the beep to tell me unavailable. i believe i remember getting a letter about that screen not coming on but cant remember if it was my 08 or the 10 model. dealership says there is no recall.
ive pictures of the screens that i took at the time

    Oh, you've done it now!!!!

Hehe jk. Im going to state the obvi, but have you pressed the DISP button? If that doesnt work, I'd start checking fuses.

yes pressed the disp button still nothing, and i highly doubt that a fuse would blow with nothing extra on. the only thing i can think of is that the cold(1 degree outside) effected it somehow.

i did look up the notice and it was for the 2nd gen.

You never know.... Especially after using a boost/jump device. It pays to check, at least for process of elimination. I am unaware of any cold weather combination meter issues with the Gen3.

I don't think that part is very unusual. Some other minor stuff likely is drawing power too.

If the battery wasn't "weak" before that, it probably is now......especially if you have had to "jump start" it before.

ok, its working again. my guess is that the extreme temp coupled with low 12v battery caused that particular screen to not turn on. the exact solution is unknown because i have a heater (120vac) and a booster pack in the car and the outside temp has risen slightly. glad to see that it corrected itself though because now i can see my pathetic mpg again.

Sorry to hear that you are disappointed with your mpg's - thats a whole different topic. Mine suffer in the wintertime too, I do my best to counteract the situation.

Glad to hear that the problem resolved itself. I park my Prius outside and it was -18f, and -8f the day before that and I didnt have any issues. Maybe your Prius is ashamed of its lower mpg's and didnt want you to see :D

Does that mean that you are not going to have anything checked out ??
    I think your 12 V battery needs a thorough charging and a test.......at a minimum.

i stillhave the appt for the inspection and i will have them do a charge and test of the battery at that time too. and that could be a reason to my lower mpg as i know they have a big impact.
and i wouldnt doubt that its ashamed of itself, it seems to have telepathy and knows what happened to its predecessor...

Same thing here MFD died after the 12V battery died.
Actually after jump starting the car the middle screen and the Head Up Display died.
The car though was functioning normally ...
Came to dealer, he said this is normal for a dead 12V battery. The battery replaced and everything came back to normal ... Took the car happy drive back home when I noticed that the arrows showing the energy distribution on the MFD have vanished...
After the dealer things that my OBD reader has ruined the plug off the car and they cannot connect their reader blah blah blah I brought the car back today again and as they told me they performed some kind of reset and everything works fine by now...

    Interesting!!

Now Im curious about where the OBD plug receives its power from.... Usually its a fused circuit, that is shared with other peripherals.

Fuse appears to be 7.5A & is labeled OBD per the attached wiring diagram.
