The dealer can look up the key code in a Toyota database, given the VIN. Since this is something that only dealers have access to, they control the price. (Yes, I am sure that someone has figured out how to get into that database, but recall that all the key will do is open the door; without the fob, the car won't operate.)

A bit of irony, the person mentioned by Rude person's says specifically, "Try not to go to Home Depot, Lowes or Walmart as they have automatic cutters and sometimes they're not calibrated." But the key shown at the ovnisf video is obviously a replacement key. I was hoping to get a replacement door key that would fit in the smart key FOB. Is there no other place than a Toyota dealer? And will they even sell one without cutting it? Thanks for the help.
The uncut key is readily available from Asia on eBay for less than $2. I got several and had them cut by a local locksmith, before I discovered the ovnisf link. They made me two door keys.
You can also go to Wal Mart and buy a key for a 1997 Toyota Camry and have it cut (assuming you have a copy of the original key). I personally did this because I wanted a full size key for my door. Then you don't have to deal with the small key in your fob. This is just a personal preference for me. I post this info just to let others know it can be done.
Removing the plastic "L" on the OEM key reveals a "flat" key with a small hole on tee end. That's what a did to keep the spare door key from sticking up in the wallet.
