In that case it is reasonable to assume the battery is scrap.
The "big" battery does not come into use "in fact it is totally electrically isolated"until the 12 volt battery has booted all the computers, and they have done there checks on the system. A week 12 volt battery will not allow this to happen.
Although the load is no where near as much as a conventional starter it's sustained for longer, and if the battery falls below 10.5 volts the car cannot be made ready.
Virtually the last thing the 12 volt battery does is pull in three large relays to connect the "big" HV battery this then begins to charge the 12 volt battery through a DC to DC converter. The 12 volt at this point has very little or nothing to do except be charged.
One question are you connecting you booster battery at the Prius 12 volt battery or at the front of the car on the jump point?

    Connecting at the 12V battery.

Remember, John, this is a 2002 we're talking about. We're following the procedure in the Owner's Manual except that, rather than a "booster battery," we're using a "jump-starter power-pack." I'm not sure there is a "jump point" at the "front of the car."

A jump start power pack contains usually a 20 AH golf cart battery. It is possible your car does not have the jump point at the front. If it does it will be in the fuse box under the hood with a red cover over it.

Couple of questions, John: 1. You say, "it's reasonable to assume the battery is scrap." The battery at issue is an Optima D51. Will so-called "deep charging" not bring it back up? and 2. I read that Optima Yellow Tops don't spill acid all over the place, even if they freeze, so is it okay to keep using the battery-pack jump-starter to get the car going until we can sort out replacement and installation? (Right now, I've still got the battery-tender on it to keep it from freezing solid in the minus degree nights we've been having.)
