I do not have to wait to get a small luxury sedan getting 175-ish miles range that cost $70k. You can get a full size luxury EV sedan now getting more than 175-ish miles for less than $70k. Why wait for one that might not be in hand by 2019, or get 175 miles range, or costing $70k by 2019? Get it in 3 months after putting in your order.
A stripped Model S is now $71070 OTD. Don't forget to include Tesla's destination & BS fees--just like every other dealer.
Like you said OTD. Porsche says their car starts at $70k before expensive options that can add $30k without trying. Then all before tax too. If you say $70k OTD for a stripped down ModelS60, it is still cheaper than a car in an executive's head.
I don't get the negative comments. A smaller car than the S, especially designed by porsche will handle better, weigh less, etc. Its good to see porsche enter the market. The real competition for this new car is the model 3 though, which will surely sell higher volume and cost less than the porsche. Porsche can probably make money only a lower volume car, and that porsche definitely pushes technology forward. For high volume we have gm nissan and tesla competing.
Kudos to Porsche for moving the tech further toward mainstream acceptance, but this is just another rich man toy.
"But"? Do you not want rich people to drive more efficiently? Is it a bad thing for those that can afford new technology to spend the money on it? Do you not expect people that have the funds, to put their money where their mouth is? I applaud Porsche for hopping on the bandwagon. About 5 years late, but joining in non-the-less.
4 or 5 years away? maybe they're counting on huge battery cost reductions. tesla will have something better by then.
I paid more for my Prius than I ever did for any of my 3 Porsches. More for my CRV too. You don't have to buy a Porsche new or be a millionaire to enjoy the benefits (and they are significant).
