Nate Silver has a very informative chapter in his book on weather forecasting.
Suffice to say, they overall do a whole lot better than economists.

    I like that one.

Up here in Maine we only got a foot, not an unusual event.

My wife uses it to commute to work, she did not miss a day.

I used my tractor with it's snow-blower to clear roads for lesser vehicles.

Our driveway is over 100 yards long, when we have had 8 inches of fresh snow on our driveway, we have not had any problems getting the Prius out and onto the road.

My wife has gotten it stuck when the fresh snow was deeper than 8 inches. When that has happened, I need to snow-blow our driveway, and in 10-minutes I can drag the Prius off from being high-centered.

Depends on how wet the snow is too. Somewhere between 8" and 12" you hang up, depending on how sticky it is.

Crazy warm/mild weather here this "winter". The local ski hills are completely bare, lol. Five years back they held the winter Olympics here; if it was this year...

Hmm, I had no issues with my Prius in Cleveland's snow... but if its an issue for you just find some blizzaks for cheap.

I just put on a brand new set of Michelin's xi3's haven't had the opportunity to run them through snow yet except some black ice and it felt like I didn't even.drive over the ice. Tires are quite the only draw back it gas milage went down a little I'm averaging around 42 MPG

It seems gen III Priuses are better off in the snow, but just in case, if I need to disable TC in my 2013 3, will the steps posted below actually work?

Step 1: Set the ignition switch to ON, not READY. To do this press the power button two times, without pressing the brake pedal.

    Step 2:
While the transmission is still in park (P), fully press the gas pedal two times.

Step 3: Apply the parking brake to ensure that the vehicle will not move during this step. Put the transmission in neutral (N) and fully press the gas pedal two times.

Step 4: Put the transmission back in park (P) and fully press the gas pedal two times. The car will display “!Car!” in the upper left corner of the LCD screen.

Step 5: Press the brake pedal and turn the ignition switch to the start position, without going back to the ready position, to start the engine.

If you want the TC to come on less frequently, drive in ECO mode.
Makes it much harder to break the tires loose in my experience.

It's obviously a bigger deal down south. Looks like the government employees in Washington DC are getting a day off due to a few inches of snow and a bright, sunny day.

Nashville area got lots of ice and then snow earlier this week so I took my 2013 3 out to test it out, just around the block.

Mostly did very well. I let it slide on purpose several times and it handled well.

Then I went up a nice hill we had been sledding down. Stopped midway at a dead stop. Not able to move. Had to roll back and try again. With momentum I made it fine.

Not taking it in TIL Friday but I don't expect any issues in the way in but getting home might be a diff story.

I'm curious how many of yall get stuck in hills , ie in traffic, on ice or snow, and on a hill? How do the Prius' handle?

I've been noticing recently that some local news sources are providing the 3 different weather models with the high and low snow accumulation predictions now.

Not sure if they did this in the past or if it's a response to the snowpocalypse feedback. This is real nice as we can take an average and see how far apart the predictions lay.

I actually averaged all 3 models out and we got pretty much smack dab in the middle for snowfall this Monday.

    :)
