Prius 1.5L NOS upgrade

Please take a video when you light that thing off

 

Any wisdom or advice? Yeah, don't do it!! I have seen more destroyed engines caused by nitrous than with anything else.

I have to question your intent to use nitrous on your Prius. It will not improve its fuel economy and will not reduce its emissions. If your desire is more power and a faster car, you are starting with the wrong platform!

 

Just cram a Corvette motor in it :lol:

Oh come on, it's not all about fuel economy and emissions. Even a Prius owner is allowed to have fun! There is nothing wrong with making a Prius as fast as it possibly can be.

I remember a while ago some enterprising young man in California wanted to build a drag car out of a Honda Civic. Well, all the muscle car guys laughed and laughed and said something like, "you are starting with the wrong platform!" Well, here we are in 2006 and there are Civic drag cars that are getting 700 hp out of a littel 1.5L engine adn are getting quarter mile times under 10 seconds! All those naysayers had a tasty meal of their own words.

Go for it Escalade, let's show the world how fast and how much fun a hybrid can be! Don't let the man hold you down!

Now as far as nitrous in Prius, well, I really don't have any practical advice. If it was a 4.0L pushrod V6 like in my Explorer, well I could help you. The Prius... well, I'm not sure. All I can say is GOOD LUCK!

I pass just about everyone on my 100 mile daily commute. Yes, I pass vettes, BMW's Mercs, etc. It's not the car, it's the driver. And if you're thinking about NO2, you are probably a pretty good driver and already passing everyone already.

But go for it anyway. And please take videos. w00t!

I've fantasized about NO2 on my Prius too, as I feel that its really the only practical way to increase power on demand, without affecting the FE and emissions in normal driving. Don't let everyone's negative comments discourage you, as many of them won't even change their own oil for fear of voiding the warranty. However, given the different valve cycle of our engines, as you mentioned, I would seek the help of professionals, like calling NOS directly, and ask if they've ever added NO2 to a Prius. You may be surprised by how many they've actually done, for all we know. B)

Seriously though, good advice. I just don't know enough about Atkinson engines to know how NO2 would work.

 

Just out of curiousity, and no, I'm not planning on doing this, is the Echo engine a bolt on replacement for the Prius ICE? A friend of a friend is drag racing an Echo (!) and has done extensive modifications.

It will bolt to the hybrid system, but you may new to make new motor mounts (I doubt that). If I remember correctly, the landspeed prius used an echo engine.

If you find the intake valve timing specs let me know, I want to try a tuned intake system for 75 mph.

 

I asked the same question about a month ago in another thread and also got a warning not to do it like in your case.
Pioneers must raise from the crowd.
I gess that a dry NOS system may perform better and less complex to start with this modification, rocketing to hell

Heck YES! Don't ask why ... ask why the heck not? The worst that can happen is the engine blows ... a blessing in disguise for a chance to replace your Prius with a real vehicle. Check out this link for available Prius kits --
