Haven't most Californians always been harvesting this gas savings?

I needed a cigarette after reading that article ;) .... funny thing is - they show you a photo of a Soul EV - and yet IIRC, the Soul EV's aren't even available in the Carolinas. Apparent they need to fine the journalists too :p .

The California plate is another hint that car wasn't from around there.

Stock photo posted on a blog site. If you want to see the actual journalism story, the link was there with a factual photo of an ICE'd charging location: RALEIGH: Gas guzzlers can’t stay out of electric-only parking in Raleigh | The Raleigh Report | NewsObserver.com

In the correct pic, is it just EV parking, or is there actually a cord?

I was at Beverly Hills, Public Library yesterday and there was a Corolla parked in one of the EV spaces. The sign is clearly marked as EV Only and there are signs that say that you can be ticketed and/or towed if you park there and are not connected to the charger. This guy had a WI plate so I guess he thought California rules didn't apply. When I came out of the library about 45 minutes later he was gone.

Usually the spots are blocked by Tesla's parked but not charging and Bev Hills parking enforcement doesn't seem to bother ticketing transgressors.

Aw bisco, no long faces, the confusion is easily understood. The sign's in the wrong place obviously!

Just got back from the dealership. This is always a travesty. You can't even charge at the dealership while you pick up a few things - because the BMW/entitled parts manager - who doesn't even own a plug-in much less a car that the dealership sells - not only ICE's the charge STALL - he parks across the next stall, making it difficult to use the adjoining stall to park. What a tool.

I guess the "charging only" sinage doesn't apply to bee'mers. The only thing missing is the guy didn't have a "I HATE PLUGIN'S" bumpersticker

A few days ago I stayed at the Flamingo hotel in Vegas (I know, very classy :p) and couldn't find any of the free parking I was promised. Signs said free parking was on levels 4-7, but half of them were reserved for valet. There were 6 spots for EV use and none being used, but I don't know what the law and etiquette is for occupying those spots. Can a PiP utilize EV spots considering it's a hybrid and doesn't require a charge? Surely it would be inappropriate for me to park there for 48hrs when it only takes 1hr to charge. Then again, there was no parking availabe, and nobody used those spots in the 2 days I was there.

Better to make use of the otherwise wasted space, or leave them for real EVs?

I ended up parking in the employee lot down the street a ways.

Huh? Leaf isn't a hybrid. It has no engine. Not sure what you mean by "doesn't require a charge".

Yea - talk about an off-topic question ... then again, in the 'Can you use a Leaf charger on a pip' thread, he claims he can do Phil's portable EVSE mod for $20. That too was a red flag.
    ;)
But tangenting back to the OP & the Bee'mer, I'm reluctant to complain to the general manager fearing my future service, when needed, might get a bit shoddy. At the very least, their actions are a glaring theme of how they don't mind marginalizing their plugin's.
