I'm looking at the Prius c Two but I notice it does not have a Smart Key or a backup camera. I love those options in my 2006 Prius. Online I have searched Toyota dealerships within 50 miles of my home and nobody has a Model 3 on their lot which has the Smart Key, and nobody has the Model 4 so I could have a backup camera. I don't have months to wait for a factory order. Instead, I'm thinking about getting a Model 2 and then adding those two options at a Toyota dealership. I don't want all the options for Model 3 or 4 but just the Smart Key and backup camera. How much would it cost to get a Smart Key installed on a Model 2? Is that even possible? How much does it cost to get the backup camera? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

The smart key part would be the hardest. The backup camera could be installed from any car audio installer. The smart key, if you install it, will not be the original toyota version but a aftermarket version which might not work as you want it too.

If I get the Smart Key from a Toyota dealership, wouldn't it be the original Toyota version? Same with the backup camera? That's what I'm asking about. The difference in price between the Model 2 and 3 is about $1000. It seems then the Smart Key option should cost less than $1000. The Model 4 has a backup camera and costs $1000 more than the Model 3. Shouldn't the two options I want cost less than $1000 each or most likely cost hundreds each?

I regret getting the Two instead of the Three on my 2012 C. I would recommend being patient or driving further to get a 3.

Look farther afield for a 4, dealer added options are almost always inferior to the factory stuff, any large city dealer should have what you want, remember the options are more important than the color, so be a little flexible in that area.

I got two '13 C's last year and they both had push button ignition; is that the same as the "smart key" you are referring to ?
And I think the cameras will be required in the '16 model year. Can you wait another 10 months or so ??

Why exactly can you NOT wait to order one ??

In your situation, sometimes you can negotiate a lower price on a better equipped model.
All of those "upgrade options" have a remarkable dealer markup, often 50% or more.

Have you tried New Cars, Used Cars, Car Reviews | Cars.com as well? Plug in your zip, do a miles from search with your style (model) wanted.

New Cars, Trucks, SUVs & Hybrids | Toyota Official Site usually provides a search based on the desires of your particular Region (Toyota Region) with heavy influence towards the local dealerships.

well, technically other extras of a model 4 are heated softex, fog lights, auto-heated side mirrors (hopefully one day I'll be bored enough to trace where the heating element wires go to in the car) in that extra $1k

you can easily add a backup camera for $45 or so in hardware and I guess if you don't know how to pop off a few panels, run some wires and solder wires together, then you can always just pay a shop or someone else who knows to put red to red and black to black and connect same connectors together.
A fully prepped harness with relay (even better than the beatsonic, which is just the harness and costs $76+10shipping, godam really $10 shipping for a harness? beatsonic you suck)
Back Up Camera Video Adapter Harness for Toyota Subaru Scion Plug and Play | eBay
then just search for any ole backup camera that ranges in price from $5-100+ (really doubt the more expensive cameras are worth it, and even if they boast some crazy specs...doubt the monitor cares. I've compared my brother's pilot's oem backup camera image to my aftermarket DIY on my C...and the pilot's image is so blurry)

and for smart key+push start...I think you'd best just stick with getting a 3/4 from toyota that comes with it, b/c seems most aftermarket SKS and push start, just defeats the purpose of the SKS and push start being a convinience (most push start I've seen...you'd still have to put your manuel key into the hole and turn it, then go push your start button...so you pretty much just added another stupid step into turning your car on, lol)...not to say you'd probably also be carrying another set of aftermarket fob along with your oem fob

I'm thinking about doing a remote start. There's a remote start kit floating around for around $100 that utilizes oem remote and range, with 3 simultaneous clicks of the lock button, car would remote start)

Backup camera is easy but push bottom could be a big problem.

I'm not sure if the absence of Smart Key still uses a push button ignition in the model 2. It could be that you have to insert the fob into the dash next to the steering wheel and then press the push button ignition. I saw that in a Gen I Prius long ago. Not sure if the '15 C2 is the same way.

I'm getting the picture that it won't be worth it to add a Smart Key afterward at the dealership. I'll try to drive further away to get a Model 3 but not the 4. It seems a backup camera will be easy to get installed.

The One and Two have a regular old key. No push button.

When I bought my C in 2012 I was initially planning to get a Two, but I looked at the features on the Three, particularly the Smart Key, and decided it was worth the extra.

Getting a 4 instead of the alternate 2 I was also looking at was a great decision. I love so many of 4's features, and I would have regretted spending that much money and not getting exactly what I wanted. So, I think you're wise to hold out for a 3 (assuming you don't want the extra features of the 4).

Well, I bought my new car today. It wasn't a new Prius C but I found a used 2013 Prius Two at a Toyota dealership. Certified pre-owned with 38K miles, I paid $17,900 or $19,600 after tax and etc. I did my homework online and snatched up this offer. The car has the push button start I wanted and Smart Key. The Smart Key works only on the driver's door. My old 2006 Prius included Smart Key for the front passenger door and rear hatchback door. Is there a way to add Smart Key to those other doors at a dealership? The car does not have a rear camera but it does have a 6-inch LCD display. If you were to get a rear camera like we discussed, even at an ordinary audio place, would the camera integrate into the LCD display like my old Prius when the car was in reverse?

I'm happy I got 2 out of the 3 options I wanted. More like 1.75 with only the driver's door for the Smart Key.

The reason I couldn't wait for a factory order or next year's model was that I was driving a rental car after being the victim of a not-at-fault traffic accident that totaled my old car. I found this new car in 7 days.

Edit: I guess I will have to change my name on this forum to Prius13TwoDriver.

By pushing the lock and unlock buttons at the same time you can reprogram your sks, so it locks and unlocks all the doors at the same time, see your owners manual.

And if you are actually standing near one of those other doors, it should work there and unlock ALL.
At least that's the way my '13 C works.
After changing the option, it now unlocks ALL regardless of where used.

    Prius06Driver,

I think yours must be a Three model as the Two doesn't have push button start. Verify this before changing your name here or you may be changing it again before too long. I don't know where you are located but I think if you had more time you could have done better on price. Last June I bought a new 2013 Three with 8 miles on the odo for $18,851.00 plus tax and license ($19,755.74 total) in Bellingham, WA.

To clarify, I did not get a Prius C but found a 2013 Prius II sedan certified pre-owned at 38K miles for $17,900.

My C came from 400 miles away. Look farther away.

Your dealers should be able to find one somewhere and get it to their shop.
