HELP! No dash lights and won't shut off

i guess you can handle once every 30,000 miles.

 

i know, it's tough with no dtc's.

 

This worked for me if your dash wont light up.

 

That might work temporarily but I took my dash apart and replaced the bad capacitor that kicks on the dash lights. That's what was wrong with mine. It comes with an 100 microfarads capacitor that doesn't live up to its tolerance. Replace it with a 220uf capacitor. Has been working ever since.


The correct polarity is very important. Notice the bevel on the old 100 microfarad capacitor. That's the negative side. Unsolder it and solder in the new one. Put the dash back together and it works. Alot of volt meters have a capacitance setting.

 

I know this is an old post, but I had the same issue with my Prius. Then I found a couple of buttons under the steering column and one says 'key.' I pushed the button and lo and behold everything went back to normal. ‍♀️ My screen display came on and I was able to shut it off.

 

That button is the SKS disable button. Press it in to disable the SKS, press it once again to return it to the out position and it enables SKS. I don't think pressing it in has fixed your combination meter problem.

 

Coincidence. The SKS button/system doesn't have anything to do with the CM. Might as well have opened and closed your door.

 

The capacitor probably just built up enough voltage to turn it on. I took my dash apart and replaced my 100uf 16v display start capacitor. Search the internet for "220uf capacitor 16v". Unsoldered the old one and soldered in the new one.
