It might be fun to go back and ask the sales critter what he would recommend and lookup the EPA expected fuel cost difference. Go back and negotiate a price, one that requires the sales manager. Then spring, "Well since <so-and-so> tells me the Prius c is being discontinued, take the extra fuel cost off this <alternate car/truck> price." <grins>

Understand we are dealing with a single point report. We really need confirmation but it might help to share this with auto reporters . . . especially the more Prius hostile. A scoop like this would 'make their day' so let them do the heavy lifting.

I'm sure its a discussion at Toyota; sales taegets have not been met. Its a chief reason why the C replacement is being done on a Mazda 2 chassis at Mazda's new exican plant. Both toyota and Mazda profit from the cost savings.
Some of us are lobbying to add a sport version to the C range; something with 150 hp on a Mazda 2 chassis would be a winner in more ways than one. First would increase sales dramatically even if it only rated 40 mpg. Second, because the Mazda 2 chassis is so good the driving dynamics of Prius C a real plus that also adds sales.
If Honda had done so with the CRZ it would be on 3 months backorder instead of a giveaway market plan. Offering a tubo package didn't do much but at least recognized the product error. The replacement CRZ will be proper; Toyota needs to be able to counter.

The Prius c is offered in four trims named Prius c One through Prius c Four. The basic level Prius c One includes power windows and door locks, automatic climate control, Multi-Information Display (MID), Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), Remote Keyless Entry, projector-beam halogen headlamps, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, 4-speaker audio, Bluetooth hands-free telephone controls, Bluetooth and USB auxiliary outlets, and rear intermittent window wiper. The Prius c Four, which sells for US$23,230 also includes Softex-trimmed seats, heated front power mirrors with turn signal indicators, alloy wheels, and fog lamps.[7][13]

I love my C, but I don't see too many of them in the Denver area.

If i did my math right toyota has sold a total of 118282 prius cs. Not too bad for 3 years of sales.

When you say you heard from a "dealer" what do you mean?

If it was a salesman? I'd really take it with a grain of salt. May of realized you owned a Prius c, and was trying to scare you into an early trade in, and "upgrade". Funny how once you own something...it's outdated or on the verge of obsolescence, but if you are thinking of buying something? You better jump in quick! It's the latest and greatest.

Toyota has historically been very loyal and supportive of "Prius", I could see them tweaking The Prius c, maybe changing it somewhat extensively. But I think Toyota believes there is a market for a "small" entry level hybrid.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind a "sportier" small hybrid, as long as efficiency could be maintained. I like the looks of the Honda CRZ but with fuel efficiency below 40 mpg, it doesn't seem worth the "hybrid" aspect.

If Toyota could build a small hybrid that drove "fun"...sporty..and looked sporty, and also make fuel efficiency worth it? I'd take a look. But I don't necessarily think this needs to be a replacement or evolution of The Prius c, it could just be introduced as another "hybrid".

Release it under the Scion badge if Toyota is afraid of introducing another "Prius" to the Prius family.

I have numerous times. its mostly articles in Aotomotive News. interesting that the'new' C isn't making news; could be the slow startup of the Mazda pant in Mexico. And some revisions in specs reporting by underground. some of us are hoping that Toyota is getting thre message about hybrids for the common market needs more power.

 

an annual rate of 36k isn't acceptable to a company like toyota. its hard to get the sales data from official sources like AutomotiveNews when Toyota doesn't separate sales of c vs other prius.
