    LOL, i think they're betting the farm (hyperbolic claims) on battery technology they haven't arrived at yet. will they get there, and when. that's the question.

    no doubt. otherwise, they'd be saying $20,000.:cool:

    Is creating a battery assembly plant and the top selling battery electric vehicle from 2010-2014 not enough to convince you of the new direction they are trying to take? Two years ago people were claiming BMW was green washing too.

    I think GM has learned from its mistakes as well as its success. It can't afford to squander good public perception so making bogus claims is not likely part of their development plan.

    Companies can and do change. :)

    Because of Fed & some local state tax incentives, I am guessing before any deductions: Base msrp just under 40K.

    The insider at GM claimed the target price of $30k-$35k was before incentives. I think that was what Tesla was trying to accomplish as well right?

    • White Plains MD - GM began building two-mode transmission and 'sold' the plant.
    • Chevy Cruze FUD - the Money article repeats the same nonsense Lutz was spouting in 2004.
    • UofM "EVs and Ethanol" are dirty - another popular subject smearing, like has been done so many times.
    I agree that companies do change. At one time, GE was a world class engineering company and then 'neutron' Jack showed up. GM too had good years when they designed and built solid products and had innovative labs. Just since the 1980s, GM seemed to lose its engineering direction.

    I'm looking forward to Volt 2.0 and hope they figured out how to resolve the worst of Volt 1.0. But we really won't see a change until the Volt becomes a family of vehicles of different sizes, a GM division to replace Saturn. Until then, I also see Bolt V1.0 as another 'single' experiment and the jury is still out. But I will be the skeptical juror until I see a broader scope:
    • family of Volt
    • family of Bolt
    • stop these snipping anti-efficient vehicle articles and papers
    I was in GE when Jack Welch came in and remember how engineers kept trying to 'do the right thing.' But Welch's commitment to 'firing' instead of 'fixing' decimated, lobotomized the company's engineering and science brain trust. His effect was not overnight but I remember seeing his followers showing up and bad things happened. So if GM is changing, I'll be patient and realize it won't happen overnight. But I sure am disappointed by the Cruze article and recent UoM papers trashing EVs and ethanol.

    IMHO, current hybrid and EV owners should not trust any company to carry on with products that have already released. We need to take the example of Cuban cars to heart and learn how to:
    • keep what we've got working
    • make them better

    ok, so the 2014 Cruze ECO is rated at 26 city / 39 hwy. Most r not going to buy that trim. They'll likely get the LT something for 25 city / 36 hwy.
    I don't get the hype ... GM
    Front Cruze page flashes 46 highway ... for the diesel version.

    this story may be just what Toyota needs to get off their dead (no one's asking us to build ev's) arse. let's not forget how (back in the late 1990's) toyota freaked & got busy with the prius - when they saw GM's concept, the "Impact" ;

    ..... and even if Toyota doesn't want to deliver ev's - there is still Tesla. Wasn't it Tesla that just anounced continued support for their legacy car - the roadster? Just sayin' - you offer up a kit that jacks up a discontinued ev's range to 400 miles .... to me that shows commitment.

    While they could have an extended 'personality' from top management selecting like minded people, corporations can change, and fairly quickly. To believe otherwise lends credence to corporations being people.

    The stockholders didn't stop GM from spending billions on FCVs.
    Nissan is in talks with Phinergy. A 150 mile rechargable range should be plenty when paired with an Al-air battery.

    GM owns Businessweek(the source Money quoted)? If not, how are they responsible for these articles? The Businessweek article was a poorly written, and lazy hack piece. It isn't even clear if it was comparing a Prius or Prius PHV. If it used the Focus instead of the Cruze, would it have been a hit piece from Ford? Would it have been better to use the Sentra or Corolla? Make it more brand neutral.
    It took Toyota 13 years to bring us a family of Prius. If you count non-Prius named models, it was 8 years before the RX and Highlander hybrids in the US. Japan probably got more models sooner, but I doubt it was any sooner than when the family of Volt got the ELR, and the family of Bolt can be said to start with the Spark EV.
    Better, as in installing farm tractor diesel motors in them.:)
    And the Prius c site once flashed with just the 53mpg city. Treating front pages as nothing more than ads is foolish. It's when finding specs becomes a PITA is when we should complain. At least the Cruze didn't bury the diesel fact deeply as such was done in the past, and clicking takes you to a Cruze diesel v. Jetta TDI comparison.

    companies only change when financial conditions dictate. it could be sooner than later, with the housing, stock market and sub prime auto loan bubbles. and then, sometimes it's too late. look what it took to change scrooge, he was lucky.;)

    GM has a fine tradition of using defective and/or substandard parts in its production vehicles and blaming the driver for the resulting damage. I'll believe Mary is willing to change things when she puts her foot so far up someone's --- they taste shoe leather. So far, that hasn't happened and I bet it won't.

    Maybe GM is toning down the hype over the Bolt compared to the Volt but it doesn't count until there is a car than can be bought. If everything stays on schedule 2017 will be interesting. What can GM offer to pull the EV buyer away from Tesla's car?

    GM's customer service?
    GM's history of reliability?
    The local Chevy dealer that will provide a top-of-the-line Bolt as a loaner?

    You tell me.
