Keeping Prius Car options/settings if I replace Stock Head Unit?

    I want to replace my Head Unit in my 2015 Prius II w/o JBL, but there are factory options/settings that can be change though the stock head unit, that effect other things unrelated to stereo.

    Under the Setup Button:
    1. Auto Lock by Speed: On/Off
    2. Auto Lock by Shift from P: On/Off
    3. Auto Unlock by Shift to P: On/Off
    4. Remote 2-Press Unlock: On/Off
    5. Key System with Elec. Key: On/Off
    6. Lock/Unlock Feedback-Tone: IIIIIIII
    7. Headlamps Auto-Off Timer: 30/60/120 sec
    8. Daytime Running Lights: On/Off

    Under the Car button:

    Displays Consumption graph & Energy Monitor.

    I don’t believe that I will be able to retain these option/settings if I install an aftermarket Unit.

    I communicated with Crutchfield the response I got was they have not yet researched the 2015 Prius, but that there might be “an interface/mounting kit that will retain factory functions and or the factory vehicle information display”.

    I checked with a few local shops but they were very vague and really didn’t seem to care unless I was going to buy something.

    From my research I can’t seem to find a solution, the settings/options are not critical but I rather try to keep them available don’t know what it may be like not having them.

    I’ve been looking into a DSP like the Rockford 3sixty.3, JBL MS-8, Audioson Bit1 or Bit10 to retain these option/settings, as my Head Unit money would go towards a DSP, but I am not one to complicate things, I rather throw in a new Head Unit & Amp some new speakers and get to cruz’n!

    Any help with this will be much appreciated!

    I suspect you will keep your settings, but be unable to see them or change them if you switch your head unit.
    This is why I decided to keep my head unit, despite it being a POS.

    I got a MS-8, and I am very happy with it.
    It does have an aux in, and you can hook an ipod or other music player to it.
    My problem is I really like FM, and I know of no first rate FM tuners that don't include a head unit :-(

    Did you replace you stock speakers when you added the MS-8? if not what did you notice better after adding it.

    Sure I replaced all the OEM speakers, as they are worse than useless.

    The MS8 tunes the speakers to have a flat response in the car.

    Thanks a lot for starting this thread. I was looking for the exact same information prior to buying a Prius, to determine what sound system option to pursue.

    Sounds like overall changing the stock head unit isn't a good idea if you want to keep those functions, right?

    I wouldn't gamble on a new head unit. Most of the locks can be disabled with after-market modules.

    A DSP or amp with high-level inputs (a "good" amp like JL Audio, the digital ones) is your best bet. Me, I just replaced the front speakers with a Phoenix Gold 6.5 component set with passive crossovers and it requires me to turn the volume higher on the OEM head unit, which is expected, but it's 100% better for SQ in my book.

    Did a quick search on the forum, might of not search good enough sorry if this has been covered here, has any one has had experience with the Focal & Toyota Plug and Play integration speakers?

    A Metra 72-8104 Speaker Connector will convert the Toyota speaker plug to spade plugs. Giving you the ability to use any speaker of the appropriate size.

    I'd like to get a replacement for my 2012 Prius, but have the same thoughts the OP has. I'm hoping that when Toyota comes out with a "CarPlay" compatible unit in their next models that they will allow older models to get the unit as a replacement. This assumes they are the same size and that Toyota cares what we, who already are owners, want. Looking at the current head unit replacements from Pioneer and others, gives me the impression that much of the Prius's data/graphics would be lost just for the sake of a better music interface, or the free Nav available from my iPhone 6.

    Hi folks. Apologies for the bump, but I have the same question as the OP. I’m hoping that with three years later, someone might know of a head unit that would be able to keep car functions, if possible. Thanks in advance!

    Since you used the search feature, I'll provide an answer :ROFLMAO:

    Tech steam can also change the car options such as 30/60/90 seconds low beam off delay, driver side only unlock, and more options so you can dump the stock head unit and still access those stock HU options.
