Atlanta Prius for battery replacement -- what say ye?

i find atlanta prius, is that them? they have new for $2600. plus $200 install, so that is a pretty good deal. their english isn't too good on the website, i guess caution is the watchword. there is a thread here on best prices for new batteries by member 'sagebrush'.

 

I'm also from ATL but, sorry, don't have a particular shop recommendation. I suppose if I encountered something with my Tacoma or Prius I felt I couldn't handle, I'd start with ToyOnly up in Chamblee only because ages ago I was very pleased with how their sister shop, MazdOnly, handled my two Mazdas. I would not use either of my local dealers - Toyota of Newnan or Toyota of Union City. I don't trust either one.

Personally, when this happens to my 2008, I will start with the Dorman battery for $1300 with a 3-year warranty. It's DIY at that price but I think it's straightforward and I can handle it with all the advice and how-to's from this and other sites. Not necessarily recommending for you though if you aren't comfortable with DIY work.

World Toyota ( toyota dealer in Atlanta ) has Hybrid Battery price for your car at $2,070.94 after you return the old battery to them (core). Installation is not that hard for anybody with right hands and head.

You can buy the battery at World Toyota and call an installer to do it for $200.

 

Not that I don't trust the initial diagnosis..............(but maybe I don't)..............

How old is your 12 V battery ?
If it is due for replacement anyway, I would suggest doing that first, on the order of $200 and see if it helps any.
It might not help but certainly won't hurt.

Just be very careful if you go this way...there is high voltage there that can kill you dead.

 

And just be sure that any company you deal with by "mail order" has good reviews from people you can actually communicate with today.
Why? IF you put it in and it doesn't work and they blame YOU for killing it, you are pretty much screwed if they are out of state.

As far as I know, Toyota dealers don't sell used parts. Alex

 

Librarian, what codes were read pointing to a problem with the HV battery?

A quick search did not bring up any complaints against Falcon.

 

Search again in PriusChat...I saw 5-6 problems just on Page 1. Now, I can't attest to any of these or to their ultimate resolutions, but I did find them on the search.

Anybody know anything about Falcon in New Jersey??


I bought a gen2 battery with Gen3 cells from Falcon in NJ last May. They charged me $1500 after refund of core charge when I shipped back my old battery.The $1500 included shipping costs both ways by UPS. I had a friend help me install it.I mostly watched and handed tools,, I am very pleased so far with the performance of the battery but looking back if you can get a toyota oem for $2000 and pay #200 for installation ...thats what I would do...nothing negative about Falcon Hybrid Batteries ...just peace of mind.

The cheapest I've seen the Dorman battery is $1875 and that's for a battery that has the bad cells replaced and the remaining cells "reconditioned" (whatever that means). The list price for a new battery with all new cells from the dealer is $2588. Dealer installation is about $375. Most of the core battery returns they are getting are from failed batteries with 8-10 years on them, so I must confess, I'm reluctant to get the reconditioned battery notwithstanding the savings involved (I have the dreaded red triangle on my car, too).

The Dorman is a refurb. Read the warranty small print, particularly your cost to return a defective battery, before you decide. You should also consider any extra charges that an additional disassembly and installation may cost you if the battery has to be returned, and the loss use of the car.

Toyota dealerships only sell OEM, new batteries.

 

Just got a quote from World Toyota today 1/5/2017 for $2588. They could not quote labor but are supposed to call me back later. I would sure love to find
