HOW TO DIY: JDM Folding Mirrors with Signals

Its jus so much to the install unless you live in CA near @sfv41901 and let him do it since he's done so many installs. Other than that it was hard finding someone to help me install but I got lucky and had a friend that was pretty good with that stuff as I provided the install instructions to him and was helping him as he did just the led hookup for me.

Go to there link for there led mirrors on eBay then ask then your question through there led mirrors posting and they'll respond

That is an exceptionally good price. Not sure about quality but for that price might be willing to chance it!

 

Yup.. jus don't come with the parts for the power folding... add about another $583 for that!

 

Yikes, I missed that part . My setup just arrived from TopSage today and I'll have it installed in about a week. Very excited. I think the power folding and LED lights are a big upgrade for both usability and style.

Yes, I ordered the whole setup for just shy of $700. Your mod list is huge and I actually JUST NOW looked at it... holy smokes! I don't see the power folding mirrors unless I missed it. Have you done that yet? What shark fin antenna did you use and does it impact reception? I bought the one from Prius chat but returned it because it just seemed too large for such a small car...

 

naw another $580 was alot for me at the time haha.... wish I had it but the wiring is a little more involved. I was lucky enough to have a coworker that's pretty smart with the wiring of the led mirrors as I provided the step by step instructions and was there with him to do it. Some chat help from @sfv41901 as well! I got the shark fin from the chat store as well. Doesn't affect the reception what so ever with my fm or my satellite radio

I think the LED mirror lights are a nice upgrade regardless. The power folding will be nice though! Thanks for the info on the shark fin. That is the one I purchased and returned. I'm still looking for something smaller. Most OEM shark fins I see on cars nowadays are considerably smaller than what I can find for the Prius, though I'm not sure why? Good to know reception isn't affected. That would be a huge bummer.

 

The aftermarket shark fin has to fit over the base of the factory antenna, which can't be removed. This limits how small it can be.
An OEM shark fin can be any size the designer wants.

 

Thanks for this write up, Sean. Brought a printout of this when I recently had these done by a reputable install company and really like them. After I got home, noticed that the driver mirror folded closed just a moment after the passenger mirror. On inspection noted the driver mirror is angled about 10 degrees further out than the passenger mirror. Both appear to be installed properly so wasn't sure why the difference. Looked at my wife's 2009 ES350 just for sanity check and her mirrors are same angle from the car. Hmm. Thought there must be a problem with the install. BUT... looked at another Prius with stock mirrors while out today and it has the same variance in angle between the driver and passenger mirrors. Aerodynamics?!?!? :-| Do others notice their stock and/or lighted power folding mirrors have a disparity between the driver and passenger side with the driver being tilted out further when fully folded/powered out?

Alright. I just read through all of this and decided looking through yahoo. auction for some mirrors when I came across this.
So let me get this straight... If you have an early gen Prius it's just plug in play, but if you have a late gen then your DIY just got a lot harder.
Well does this part on yahoo auctions enable it to be plug in play now?

To make a long story short... No. We don't have motors in our mirrors.

But I have to say, this is one of my favorite mods.
